Recommendations on handheld CB...Your experience?

Looking for a handheld, compact CB with NOAA capabilities. Looking for real world experience...in other words, what do you have and how well does it work....and of course where from and how much!

Thanks in advance!

Get a mounted unit and more than 40 channels. you wont get out in an emergency with the hand held

Re: Recommendations on handheld CB...Your experience?

Forgot what the model number is but it is the Cobra 76 (?). It has weather channels, dual-scan and all that. I think about 90-100 bucks. I personally like the fuller featured but smaller units (some have weather, radio shack has a nice little one with weather that I know of). I find that for any amount of talking on them, the mic tends to get heavy in my hand pretty quickly. I have a Cobra in my work truck and the R.S. one in the FJ, so that it fits in the center console where the cup holder/pocket is.

i went to radio shack and just bought there 99dollar special. it has the weather scanner. it seems to get pretty good reception . i like that it not only comes with the rechargeable battery pack but it also has a battery pack you can load with the double a's i think it takes 8. it also has the 12v adapter to either charge it or opperate it from the cig lighter.

go to radio shack, they will help you out a lot. they did for me. they have a great selection of hand held and non hand held CB's. i got a non hand held set-up with everything needed for like $140.

Re: Recommendations on handheld CB...Your experience?

This isn't a real world report...just what I've been looking at. I tend to agree with the comment about limited reception with a handheld which is why I am leaning towards this convertible setup. I would like to do the Bandi mount as detailed in other thread. Then coax and power to some location (these guys in the additional 12v thread are getting a little nuts) where I keep the handheld. If it fits in the driver's glove box I may opt for that or the console...not sure yet.

The radio I'm leaning towards is the Midland 75-822 (or 75-820?). Operates with either the battery pack attached...or remove it and slide on the 12v and coax adapter for fixed mount. Easy to find online pricing. Here's pictures of both modes:

Good luck...anyone using this setup?

Thanks bfr...I like the idea of the attached or portable unit from Midland. Did a little research and I think that's what I'm going with. What I didn't want was a bulky box that I had to find a place to mount.

Thanks everyone!

Re: Recommendations on handheld CB...Your experience?

I own the midland shown above. very limited transmitting distance using the car and antenna setup and even worse as a handheld. It does receive pretty well though. I would not recommend it unless you have a very special need.
