According to Alex in this thread, it may be possible to turn off the DRL's via the dealers 'scan tool' device. He states: "I have turned off the DRL's on other models with this method, although I haven't seen mention of it in any of the manuals for any other model either." Anyone care to go to a dealer and try it out?
Just a thought...Has anyone tried to use the parking lights as the drl's? I'm sure you have all seen that some vehicles come with the parking lights on when the vehicle is started. I know I have. It seems that you kinda get the best of both worlds...no really annoying light as in when you pull in the driveway or at the drive-in (we don't have those around here where the temp feels like 200 freaking degrees with 245% humidity) and you still have the safety of lights on. This may also help with the "motorcycles lost in the sea of drl's" since these lights will be orange. I am no electrical whizz and have no idea how this would connect. Anybody got any ideas or thoughts? And please be gentle if this was dicussed in another thread. I just read ALL 12 pages of posts in this one.

Just disconnect the DRLs and leave your parking lights on all the time. They go on and off with the key. Then if you want DRLs some of the time, you can move the switch one more click to turn the headlights on. They go off 30 seconds after you shut off the engine and close the last door, or instantly if you push the lock button twice on the remote.

I like the idea...I tried it and it didn't work, though. The lights never went out after 2 minutes. Am I missing something or should I just wait for the battery to die and the lights will take care of themselves.
Okay so by accident i discovered the secret to turning them off without pulling stuff apart. Last night I parked in the drive way backwards to unload some stuff and set the e-brake. later when I came back out and restarted it the DRLs didn't come back on!!! What the?! I released the e-brake and....viola! back on! Re-set the e-brake and nothing....strange. so i killed the engine and restarted it again.....and whaddoyaknow?! no lights!
So the trick is to set the e-brake. Turn it off. Turn it back on and leave the brake set. That doesn't help you guys that want to kill them all the time but at least I now know what I can do to chill at the drive-in with the engine running with blinding everyone or washing out the screen! I guess you just have to tinker with stuff to learn the tricks!

mine didnt have drl's but it did have a nice feature where you can leave the lights on and 30sec after you turn your car off, the lights went off. I really liked that feature.
After I did the seatbelt mod, this feature stopped working. Not sure what thats called, tried to search but nada.

NE1 else?
A) They all have DRLs. So does yours...
B) I really doubt the seat belt chime mod (I assume this is what you are talking about) would have any effect on the 30 second delay. Try it again...
Bill, go to Toyota.com and look at the standard features list. The DRL's are listed with na O/P, meaning there are optional, and feature available only as part of an option packages. It turns out the DRL's come with the CQ package. There are so few truly basic FJ's sold that no one here has mentioned that they don't have DRL's. F J LO must be one of the very few.
