Re: turn the DRL's OFF!

Just make everyong happy and add a switch to the dash. Run it to the wire mentioned on here and back. Then you can shut it off when you are idling in front of your girlfriends house at 4:00 AM

Remember my sign-on is for the movie Tombstone and some of the classic lines. I'm not in law enforcement, I'm an engineer (absent minded according to my wife).

With that said, I don't drive with running lights, I drive with full beam (not high beam) all the time. I am convinced that a well intentioned driver may look both ways and not see your car, but car and lights increase the chance he will notice you.

You will always have the driver that is a jerk and pulls out to get in front of you, but the good drivers only do so when they make a mistake. One final note the glare may be prominent in the direction you are coming from. With lights on the guy about to pull out will see something he would miss without lights. Lecture over.
That's fine until everyone has them.

Re: turn the DRL's OFF!

Not sure on the FJ but most vehicles you can just pull a fuse...Dont have mine so I cant tell you for sure...but did you know most insurance companies see it as safety feature?!?!

And for the people that want to have DRL but they dont you have to choose what lights you want to be on and hook it up to ignition, instead of a light switch. You can buy lights and wire them in and do it that way also...but once again if you dont know what your doing, I wouldnt reccomend doing it!!

I have my hubby that is an excellent electrician!!

P.S. - I didnt read the 11 pages of this post...

Re: turn the DRL's OFF!

One million thank you's to those who took the time to post up ways around some of these features.

I just shut off my seatbelt chime but agree it would be so much more satifying to microwave it. Or take it to a field like a fax machine and take a baseball bat to it. (Office Space style)

I also pulled the plug on the DRL's. There are a lot that posted their very valid reasons for wanting them. I just do not want them. I have never liked them and they remind me of a cheap Hertz rent a car.

I have survived this long driving defensively without them I am sure I can survive. Besides I really dont think the nimrod that pulls out in front of you would notice a 1 billion candlewatt buld pointed at their face let alone some dim headlights.

Thanks again for your help!

Re: turn the DRL's OFF!

DLRs are for folks who cannot remember to turn on their headlights for the conditions they will meet during their driving experience on any given day. If you want safety, turn on your headlights! I personally want the option of not having the lights turned on for me...
