Ok thanx to you people I figured out how to disconnect the DRLs a while back.
Since I'm not useing the DRLs I thought why have a fuse if your not going to use it so I pulled the fuse. Didn't know that it would diconnect the lights. On my way home it started getting dark and I realized I had no lights and didn't think to use a back up fuse. It was embarresing driveing home. At least I didn't have to drive very far.
Anyone tested to see if there high beams still work after disconnecting them? I'll bet they don't. Most DRL's are basically the high beams running on low power.

Do you truly believe that in this monster thread that has lasted months and months and months that NO ONE has checked their high-beams?
Yes. They work.
I put mine on a switch so I have the option to turn them on or off.

Thanks for the info and pics. I took my FJ in for service and asked them to disconnect them and they didn't know how. I printed the pictures before I left and gave them to the service department. They did this for me for free since I showed them what to do. Once again thanks for the info and pics.
This alternate method ensures the system remains sealed, intact on the vehicle, and easily returned to OEM if/when needed. There is no need to disconnect the battery, as the removed pin is a ground.
Thanks for the info on how to turn off the DRL's so I can install the HID high-low beam Bi-Xenon conversion kit I just ordered for $179 delivered.
Actually I hate to turn off the DRL's....despite what a number of members on the is thread think, I think they are a good idea. Riding a motorcycle for more years than I care to think about and being alive, I am very aware everyone behind the wheel is pointing a weapon at me. I know daytime lights have saved me from being in an accident often, just like they kept me from pulling in front of another vehicle running with them.
Motorcycles come standard with headlights activated during the day. It is a very effective way to keep that person with a cell phone attached to their ear or the little old lady from pulling out in front of you and shorting your life. You'll notice on the highway all Grayhound buses have run with DRL's for years and most truckers do now, for the same reason. Not for the driver to see better, but so the other guy sees you before he changes lanes or pulls in front of you.
Just ask yourself how many times you have pulled out in front of someone because you didn't see them and almost had an accident. Anything you can do to be more visable is good. DRL's are a great safety feature on any vehicle and should be manditory. IMHO

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "Holy crap, what a ride!"

I happen to agree with you 100%. I only want mine to go off when the automatic is in park and the parking brake is on with the engine still running. That's all.
