Re: Turn the DRL's OFF!

Regarding the disabling the DRL's, I've read all the recommmendations from cutting the wire under the DRL relay to disconnecting the gray connector near the driver's headlight. I was wondering, what happens if you just simply remove the DRL relay or DRL fuse or both?

Thanks,
Jim
The DRL relay is meant to pull your headlights to GND(ground chasis). When non-active, your headlight minus cable goes through the DRL resistor. When active, your headlights minus cable goes directly to ground, giving full power.

If you pull the fuse or the relay or even both, then your headlight minus cable will always go through the DRL resistor and then your lo/hi beams will not be at full power.
If you unplug the DRL resistor(in the front of your rig) and also remove your relay/fuse, you will have no lights at all!
Just so you all know, your headlight relay is always energized when your rig is either running or you have the lights set to on. The DRL relay controls how much power goes to the lights and the dim relay is responsible for going into hi/lo beam mode.

I hope this explains the confusion of why removing the relay and fuse doesn't work.

Here is the DRL schematic...

bigbill25 edit: Adding solutions to first post.

To turn of the DRL permanently:

To turn off the DRLs only when stopped (a.k.a. Drive-In Movie Mode):

Dragon Edit to add SwissArmySUV's switch

Does anyone know if it will be possible to turn the daytime running lights off?

Permanently?

I never caught on to the point of DRL's. If you can't see during the day, DON'T DRIVE! If you cant see other cars during the day, DON'T DRIVE! Oohh I know! I'll shoot beams of light at everyone so they can see me! Maybe I could just drive around with my high beams on, I've seen that more than I care to remember.
Want me to tell you how I really feel?
Awsome! You just can't beat a free mod!!

Keep in mind when using DRLs at night that your tails lights are dark. Also the saving of gas by doing so is like really puny.
If you put the light switch in the middle position, parking lights, you have tail lights-front ambers-and DRLs. I think this is what the previous poster was implying.

Re: turn the DRL's OFF!

Just Beware, DRL's and parking lights don't allow the high beams to work. The headlamps need to be turned on for the high beams to work.

Re: turn the DRL's OFF!

Just added a switch via SwissArmySuv but, I used a relay wired to the Normal Closed (NC) terminals 30 to 87a allowing me to have a indicator light in the cab to remind me the DRLs are disabled.

Re: turn the DRL's OFF!

What guage wire should be used for SwissArmy's DRL switch mod?

Actually, what is the most common guage wire used for common FJ mods. I might as
well buy a small spool of it and get it over with.

Thanks.
