JL W3 crossover points

I hope I don't start a religious war, but what is, roughly, the appropriate cross over point for JL W3s?

I'm driving the sub with an Alpine PDX 2.150 and 4 channels of Diamond D6 component speaks.

Re: JL W3 crossover points

Since you have a 12db octave x-over on that amp, I would only go up to 80Hz.

I have W3's and they are at about 65Hz, but I have Morel 9's in my doors, and I also use a 24db x-over.

Re: JL W3 crossover points

Rule is start at 80Hz and go down from there and see whatsounds better to your ears, It will depend on your enclosure and acoustics of the car.

Re: JL W3 crossover points

Everyone likes to start so low with sub. I like to crossover my 10" subs at about 100 or 120hz. I think it sounds better in the midbass area. I wouldn't go this high for a 12" sub though, cone doesn't move fast enough to reporduce the higher freqs accurately. But yes, ultimately, it's what you think sounds best.

Re: JL W3 crossover points

I agree with this, a nice tight sub like a 10" w3 100Hz should be good, but your ear is the best judge anywere between 80-120 is what you will typically see.
