My Audio Upgrades

Previously I had changed out the speakers in the doors, dash, and rear pillars with Rockford 3.5s and 6x9s. I had also replaced the subwoofer with a Kicker CVR-8. As a result the stock subwoofer amp didn't have a enough power to drive the Kicker sub adequately.

So I bought a Lightning Audio B250.1 sub amp off e-bay and installed it while I had some time off over the holidays. Up to this point I've been too cheap to replace the FJammer but at least now I have a reasonably decent souding system without a tremendous outlay of cash. The amp has speaker level inputs so I just dsiconnected stock amp and ran wires from one side of the cargo area to the other. Using the stock subwoofer switch to turn the sub amp on/off.

Re: My Audio Upgrades

Randy,

How'd you like the sound after you replaced all the speakers with Rockfords?
(Not including the sub)
Worth while mod?

Definitely worth doing. You'll need to install a 47uF capacitor in series with with the dash and rear pillar speakers to eliminate some of the bass going to the 3.5s or you'll have some buzzing. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't have bothered with the rear pillar speakers since you can't hear them when you are sitting in the front seats.

Re: My Audio Upgrades

I just finished the same speaker upgrades to 3.5 and 6x9 RFs except for the sub. I am looking for a model that won't require an amp upgrade.

Dumb question, what is 47uF capacitor and how do I install?

Also, I think a new HU is a must have to replace the FJammer and get the most from the RFs.

It's basically a "Bass Blocker" for a dollar. Bought them at Radio Shack. Just wire it in series with the + lead of each of the 3.5 speakers.

Re: My Audio Upgrades

Another "dumb" question:
Why do these aftermarket 3.5" speakers need capacitors and the stock ones don't?
Do the stockers have them in-line already?
