Those of you with Satellite radios, need advice please....
For quite some time I've been wanting to get a Sirius Satellite Radio. However, I'm not sure the best route to go. I'm considering both the portable device, that you can use in the FJ or in the house, or the Toyota installed Sirius unit. There are so many different options, and radio brands, that I'm having trouble making up my mind.
As far as the factory addition for the FJammer goes, I used to drive 60 miles a day until I was lucky enough to get a job closer to home, now my commute is 10-15 minutes. We do go on long trips at least twice a year and the Toyota/Sirius unit would be nice for that purpose. On the other hand Toyota's Satellite adapter is pretty pricey considering the fact that it isn't removeable and considering the small amount of time I currently spend in my FJ on most days.
I'm wondering if it might be better to get one of those portable Home/Auto Sirius Satellite Radios. That way I could remove it and listen to it in the house as well. On the other hand, there's so many choices for the Home / Auto units, I wouldn't know which one to get. I've researched the main ones that Sirius offers on their website and none are rated excellent by Epinions.com or Amazon.com.

you can now access and listen to sirius on your computer (sirius.com, and get your username and p/w from customer service), so if you are using any kind of computer with web access, you can go that route. if not, the sportster4 is a nice small unit that can be used in the boombox for home use. hope this helps.

My wife has a xm portable roady II model. During the week it stays in her car (she is in her car about 4 hrs a day) and on weekends/holidays we move it to the house and play it thru 2 stereos in the house. It's really nice to be able to move it around. She loves it and I get to enjoy it on weekends. I don't think you'll go wrong w/ a portable unit especially if you can find a newer model w/ an internal antenna/battery.

My in-laws gave me the XM portable (Pioneer inno) with the car kit and home kit. It was an easy install and we can switch it to the house, the wife's care or carry around and use it like an iPod.
I'm still uncomfortable having to pay for radio and not sure about the content yet. My teen daughters love it and the wife seems to have found a couple "stations" that she enjoys also. I would go with the portable since it offers more use time for the monthly fee being able to use it in multiple cars, home and while hiking/biking/etc.
I'll post a couple pics of where I installed it tomorrow.

The popular report is that the two major players will combine programing within the year. It might be smart to wait or go with the least expensive unit now and see what happens.

Agreed. I had Sirius in a previous vehicle. I got tied of the dealer telling me to "wait a month" and a FJammer compatiable Sirius tunner would be made avaliable.
One weekend I just went down to the local Best Buy and walked out with a Stiletto. Had it installed one hour later and it's been working great since. I also purchased the car kit so I could mount it to the left of the steering wheel in that dead silver space. Love it...
Have had both the Sportster and the Roady with other vehicles. Prefer the former but you're really not going to miss with either of those or their new units like the S50. Play mine both in the car and the house. I'm hooked.
