Anyone experiencing bad (static) radio reception with Fjammer?
I often get static, even on local stations.
Could it be the antenna?
I get perfect reception except when stopped at a particular signal light flanked with some serious KV transmission lines.
1. Have you installed any aftermarket items that require fiddling with the wiring in the firewall or elsewhere? Half the problems on a lot of vehicles relate back to the last mechanic that worked on them.
2. There could be a loose connection for the antenna. Make sure that your antenna is fully screwed in. I can't advise you about reaching to the back of the unit to check the connection there because I haven't done it myself.
been discussed, i would advise using the search bar.
I've tried the search bar function a number of times over the last months, with success about 50% of the time. Searching for terms within posts will sometimes yield many results, forcing one to read through literally hundreds of posts to find the exact search term. Searching for terms within thread titles is dependent upon the original poster labeling his problem accurately.
For instance, my recent post concerning refueling problems was researched via the search bar prior to my post. I searched for the terms 'fueling' (WAY too many to read through), and 'refueling'. The answer was not apparent after a half hour or so of research. So I posted my query. Of course the older thread was shown in 'related posts' below my new post as soon as I created the new thread! Geez! Well, at least I tried!
While I can't speak for the owner nor the moderators, the practical and hospitable approach to new members posing a previously asked question might be to assume that the answers may have changed since the original query. As time passes, this will become even more apparent as the FJ database grows and build changes accrue. In other words, what was asked and answered three months ago may have a totally different answer today.
And, on the subject of hospitality, I'd rather read the same question a thousand times than lose one potentially great forum member. Rather than offer nothing other than a command to a new member, I'd bite my tongue and hope someone else with better knowledge of the forum could proffer a pertinent link that would direct the person towards the appropriate thread.
Now I'm not offering this insight in order to put you down, but rather to do my small part to insure the continued success of a fantastic forum. Thirty years ago us off road types didn't have forums such as this to help them out. The best we could hope for was a note tagged onto a university corkboard, a flyer in an aftermarket supplier's window, or a tiny classified ad in the back of a few scarce off roader magazines.
The one thing I remember best about the 'good old days' in my new '75 FJ40 (may she still be rolling!) was how helpful all my fellow off roaders were. In those days electric and PTO winches were rare, while hand cranked winches and sheepherder jacks were for us poor boys. I can remember a whole herd of Jeeps stopping to help me clear a high center ledge that had hung me up for hours out in West Texas. I didn't hear ONE negative comment about my 'jap junk', nor one negative word about my foolish attempt to challenge that ledge. Folks just got to work helping me out. And that is what I intend to do here.
Interesting....the first two hits on your search referred the searcher to THIS thread!
The next few offered nothing more than original manufacturing defect 'replace it' responses, with one TSB that would not have apparently applied to later production run units.
And many of the rest were complaining about the BASE RADIO, not the FJAMMER.
So, I guess you've adequately reinforced my pointed observations about the search engine capabilities. Not ONE of your search results pointed towards a solution to the originator of this thread's problems.
Queries by newcomers should be either ignored by those with other issues, or answered in a respectful manner by those with actual knowledge.
Thankfully, when I first entered this forum and requested information about the FJ, no one jumped up and demanded that I use the search engine (even though I had). Instead, rather than chide me, they offered a helping hand. All I am saying is that YOU might consider being a positive force within the FJ community. Instead, you reply with a search result that points out my original points concerning the search engine's ineffectiveness.
However, I will forgive and forget that sort of retentive response and offer to help you as much as I am able.
No problem here. And I apologize for getting a bit condescending. I spent the day refereeing two very active grandsons. I guess I was still in 'granddaddy mode'.
