VHF Weather frequency

Hello all,

Do either of the OEM stereo units in the FJ provide monitoring of the standard VHF weather frequency? If not, is anyone using an aftermarket stereo that has this capability? If so, what make/model is your unit and how's the reception? I'm not interested in satellite radio (Sirius/XM, etc).

Cheers,

Dave

Not sure whats the purpose is but there is no such thing as OEM radio picking up VHF Weather Frequency...Thats because the weather Freq is way about the 108MHz which normal radios are set to tune. If you are worried about weather, dont you think your local radio station will cover this ?

How about just a decent handheld/mobile scanner ? It will fit just fine inside the driver box....

VHF NOAA Weather radio starts at 162.550 see: U.S. VHF Channels - USCG Navigation Center towards the bottom of the page.

not true...my grandparents' BMWs back in the day always used to have a separate weather band. We loved it, especially since we were always out on our boat and it was great to hear the forecast and tide forecast

Dang I want my car radio to do AM, FM, 2 meter, 10 meter, and all the freqs. Just what is wrong with these manufactures?

Just kidding but I could not resist.

BTW: My clock radio by my bed does NOAA LOL:

Cheers.

You car radio is HF not VHF.

The guy lives up north in British Columbia. I dont think NOAA stations cover that far up north....

Car Radio: FM = 88.1-107.9 = lower band VHF band not HF
AM = 530-1720 khz = VLF not HF....

Dude I thought you passed the FCC test ?

Mercedes Benz had this at one time as well. Also aftermarket Blaupunkt units had this at one time as well. Not sure if they still offer it or not.

Re: VHF Weather frequency

Many cars have the 1-10 weather bands. Both my Mercedes do.....
BTW, most CB radios have NOAA radio.

Re: VHF Weather frequency

Thanks to all who replied.

I remember the Blaupunkt's having this 160ish MHz wx freq back in the late '70's and assumed the higher-end stereo's of today would also have it, as there still are gov't wx broadcasts in this freq range on the highways (even way up here in northern BC and Alberta - heh).

Thanks to jkwhite for the info on CB's - good idee to have one onboard anyways so will look for one with the wx band. Cheers.

Dave.
