rear speakers

Simple question. I have the base six speaker system. Obviously I have located the front 4 speakers. Where are the rear speakers in my system?

Please help. Thanks

Re: rear speakers

The rear speakers are all the way in the back in the D-pillars. If you look back there you will see the covers that cover the speaker area. If you have the 6 speaker system then you have no speakers there. However you have the wiring in place so all you have to do is add some speakers and the wiring harness.

Two in the dash, two in the door, and two are hidden in the headliner above your head.

Re: rear speakers

Yep, the 6 speaker system has two in the door, two in the dash and two in the head liner. Like, I said before though you are wired for the 8 speaker system so you can add speakers to the D-pillars in the back if you purchase some speakers and the wiring harness. Search for other posts: FJC Rear Hatch Speakers and Speakers in the rear pillars. Both of these posts are very helpful. I added the rear speakers and in my opinion it made a big difference for passengers in the back seat.

Re: rear speakers

Thanks for the info. It seems that if I upgrade my existing speakers and add speakers to the rear pillar and a sub, I will still have these cheap speakers in the headliner. Do I want to continue to use them? If I don't want to use them can the be easily disconnected?

They're not actually speakers. They're transducers that use the headliner as the speaker diaphragm, basically turning the headliner itself into a speaker. It helps to fill out the sound. I'd leave them hooked up, but you could try it with and without and see what you like better.

Re: rear speakers

I've tried to find that answer out myself. No one could tell me the exact location and how to disconnect them. So, I decided to just leave them. It's my understanding that they act as exciters so they optimally work when music is played loudly or when you fade the sound to the rear. I've upgraded my door, dash and rear speakers. I would do those for sure. You wouldn't beleive the crappy speakers they have in there. The size of the magnets are hilarious. My current plans is to add an amp to run the front speakers and leave the HU to run the rear and headliner exciters. Which, it's my understanding the exciters are @ 8 or 9ohms.... Dont quote me on that though. My rear speakers are just recommened at 25rms. So, my HU supplies 50 watts x4 so im thinking for the filler I need i'll just leave the exciters connected and power them and the rears with the HU. Should work out to where enough power is supplied for both.

Re: rear speakers

The headliner transducers run off of the rear channel.

The stock head unit is wired like this:
Front channel - doors, dash
Rear channel - rear pillars, headliners, sub

I think the wires for the headliners run up along one of the a-pillars.

Re: rear speakers

I thought it was somewhere on the drivers side behind the dash. I didn't exactly want to get in there and just start unhooking stuff either though. Ya never can tell what ya might unhook.

If I recall correctly, there is a small connector on the drivers side behind the silver panel that can be unplugged. Set your fader to the rear speakers and you can hear what they sound like. I decided to disconnect mine.
