I installed the Pioneer AVIC Z1 in my FJ and it is the most amazing piece of audio visual equipement I have experienced to date. I've driving with it now for almost 2 months and I still am finding out things to do with it that are exceptional. I have the XM live traffic display on the GPS map which really helps here in the LA area and the voice recognition system seems to be getting used to me more now. I have the Ipod (video) hooked up also now so in addition to playing the 30 GB of music, I also feed the video to the LCD display from the Ipod. That was a very easy cable hook up to the back of the AVIC Z1 and the top of the Ipod. I'm find the 30 GB hard drive audio library in the Z1 is a better way to sort the the music than the Ipod. There seems to be a delay digging out the music from the Ipod hard drive vs a much quicker "get there" using the Z1 library and the Z1 library has much better navigation tools (espescially using the voice recognition system) getting to your "favorites". The on screen (Z1 LCD) Ipod controllabiltiy is nice, but not as nice as the Z1 Library. There are other nice trick things in the XM radio contols that I've never seen before also. All in all in a great system - I highly recommend it to everyone.
Also, I heard Pioneer has sold out the Z1's and the Z2's are not due out until June .... that's quite a lag. I also hear the only difference between the Z1 and Z2 is software control logic .... I'm being told, any Z1 can be upgraded to the Z2 configuration by putting the Z2 DVD (~$300) in and upgrading the software .... I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I just came home from being at the CES convention, and you stand correct on the Z1 and Z2. Software is the only difference, unit itself is the same no changes at all. Pioneer rep stated that it would cost 200.00 for software to upgrade, and you must give your serial number from the Z1 unit in order to get upgraded software. Great NAV, enjoy your new toy/tool.
Am considering buying a FJ. Took a test drive yesterday. I see on the Toyota page they say Sirius is an option. But is there an external antenna mount for a Sirius or XM radio antenna (or GPS)? My '99 Acura TL had Navi so the antenna is in the rear window. I had to use a magnetic mount antenna when I added the Sirius:

....but if I buy a FJ I'd like the sat radio and GPS antennas mounted in a "factory" roof mount/housing.

Thanks,

My antennas are mounted inside on the frontdash next to the winsgield ... magnetic /adheasive mount ... works perfect.

I put in the Z1 in my FJC last month, along with rear view camera and BT. What operational differences will the Z2 afford? Also, is there a way to program the radio station call letters when saving stations to positions?
I really don't know what the "operational" changes are, but I plan to fight out pretty soon .... Z2 DVD is inbound soon. You have the same sat up as I have ... I really like the bluetooth interface with the audio visual systems of the Z1 ... don't you

Love the unit,... currently having a little trouble getting it to read my cell's phonebook, though. Like you, still figuring out all the features! The rear-view is terrific - no more surprises!!

If your phone is a Blackberry (mine is) it won't transfer the "contact" information ... I tried, then read on another bulletin board ... it has to to with some trade issues that Blackberry has with Pioneer ... I just use the contacts listing in the phone to make the calls and also peck away at imputting the numbers slowly as I think of of it.
