Well, I would have posted this yesterday but I was not feeling very well. I've finished my laptop mount project for the FJC. The laptop is running my GPS and GoogleEarth. Before anyone rips on them ( like you ripped on my lens covers ), I want you to remember that my goal was to shoot for functionality and not looks. Also, I only used materials from my garage. Some aluminum scrap metal, nuts and bolts, some steel, and the most important part, VELCRO! I only had to pay for the velcro and that was less then $5.00.
I must say that it works fantastic and is very rigid. I want to thank Air2air for the great idea of using the rounded area of the dash as a top anchor for the rest of the mount. Mine is not as cool as his, but it works great. Passengers have plenty of knee room and the air bag is not covered.
If you notice a blue and black box on the lefthand passenger side, those are an DC to AC power inverter, and the laptop's charger/powersupply.
If you need any dimensions just PM me. Very cheap to make and works great.
good work! very cool! um.........you might not wanna keep the laptop there when a passenger is there though....or at least I wouldn't The airbag not only comes out, but down too......your passenger would get quite a mouthful of keys and screen

Passengers don't ride in my rig. And when I'm not four wheeling I'm not using the gps so the bars come off. Like those things you both mentioned have not already crossed my mind. At least one of you had a positive comment before the rip.
No need to say sorry. I'm used to getting the negative before the positive on this board. I posted this to share the idea. Nothing more nothing less. Thanks for your positive feedback.

I tend to be on safety lookout all the time...I'm slightly paranoid about bad stuff happening in cars..........so it was my initial reaction. Definitely don't want to contribute to negative feedback.........

It's normal. I do it to, point out the negative before the positive. Anyway. It works great and I don't have to worry about the laptop falling off the seat anymore. The velcro on the mount arms is doubled up, and I'm going to add some more for more vibration dampening for the laptop. If I am running with a passenger, I'll just make them sit in the backseat or hold the laptop. I don't want any human shishcabobs either.
Well, if you just like to post things to share, you shouldn't take any offense to any feedback. Once you did get something back, you pop off saying you don't care. You either care or not...either way, I see no redeeming value to your idea.
It can't be used while you drive, you can't bring a passenger when wheeling unless you relegate them to the back seat, even if no passenger was in the seat, if the airbag went off, it would probably throw the laptop against the seat and deflect who knows where, but if you like it, that's all that matters.
If you want to not bring a passenger, there are many ways to use that space to secure a laptop and see/use it from the drivers seat. I'm not going to say sorry for anything negative since you don't care and just want to share your idea.

My 2 cents...sell the laptop and buy a Garmin Nuvi or something like it. I know...the screen is smaller and you can't surf google earth, but who needs google earth when they are in the wilderness.
