Question Has anyone used Great Stuff to insulate body panels?

I’m planning my FJ purchase and mods and had an idea that I haven’t heard of anyone doing.

The goal is to (a) reduce exterior noise, (b) reduce any rattle from wires running behind panels, (c) provide general thermal insulation and (d) strengthen the body a little (give it a more solid feel when you tap on it.) So I was thinking of using Great Stuff door/window expanding foam in the doors (side and rear), behind the roof liner, behind the panels in the cargo area and possibly injecting it into pillars. The door/window type keeps some flexibility so it would flex with changes in temperature and as the body flexes. Obviously, I would have to be careful not to block access to anything but other than that, I don’t see a problem.

I asked a mechanic about possibly using expanding foam, or equivalent, to insulate doors, roof and rear quarter panels and he didn’t see a problem as long as I kept it away from hot areas like the firewall, engine compartment.

Has anyone tried this or see any problems?
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Check out Lizard Skin. I have no used it yet myself but I plan to use on the interior panels of my Willys wagon. I was highly recommend by a few Car restores at the last car show I went to.

DO NOT USE GREAT STUFF!!! It expands, so if you get too much in there it can damage stuff. They do have some different stuff that I believe expands, but does not get hard like the Great Stuff. It is made for doors and windows, look for it at home depot.

Now, if your looking for sound deadning might I suggest Raammat with a layer of ensolite foam over it. I have used this stuf for car audio and it is top notch stuff. Not to mention the owner absolutley ROCKS!! Take a look here.

It's hard to control where the foam will expand into. If you need to run or repair a wire at a leter date, you'll be out of luck. Ever try to remove expanded foam? It's a mess. Body/Sheetmetal also has the ability to flex, preventing damage from light impacts (football, bibycle, etc). If you make it too rigid with the foam, you may loose that needed flex.
Just my 2 centavos.

once, i sealed an amp wire routing hole with it, let it sit overnight, looked the next day, expanded way too much, blew the oem ecu out of the mount(luckily i wasn't using it anyway{engine swapped, complicated explanation}) Was a huge pita, so DON'T USE GREAT STUFF FOR ANYTHING ON A VEHICLE, EVER!!!

Ok, im good now.
