I just installed an in-dash DVD player, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to hook it up to the parking brake so I can actually watch a DVD. I tried connecting it to the ground, but that didn't help any. Any suggestions?

I was talking to my dad(electronics engineer) about the problem i'm having, and he said I might be able to connect it to the fues that runs the little brake light on the dash. He said that just hooking it up to the ground wouldn't work because the stereo is probably looking for a certian amount of volts to turn the safty off. What do you guys think? Would it work?

I had the same issue with my stereo. It requires the parking break be used to access special menus.
The way I did it was to take off the center console and there is a wire that connects to the base of the parking break. I just spiced the wire I needed to connect to it, after routing it behind dash.
Be a man and ground the 'parking brake' feed permanently. Do you really want the video to cut off when you are driving? Screw that! With the rear tire hump blocking the view of the dash center, Johnny will never catch you.
Plus, you can control yourself and not watch during critical driving manuevers, right? At other times, nothing beats a good episode of Beavis and Butthead to cheer you up on the drive to work.
If you do wreck while watching videos try your best to reach your broken appendage over to the OFF button before the ambulance arrives.

I think your dad is right. The wiring diagram for the FJ shows that the connection on the parking brake is 12v when the brake is off and ground when the brake is on. I expect the player wants to see a transition, not just a permanent ground. a switched ground through a load would provide the same conditions.
