Question wire routing for new amp?

This is a question to those who have installed new sub amps. i searched, but didn't find much.

Has anyone ran 2ga, or 1/0ga wire for your higher powered sub amp??
If so, how did you route it?, and if you routed it inside, did it leave really bad lumps?

I'm considering routing either inside frame, i will inspect for roughness first, and use non-slitted wire loom. Or tying under truck, routed along drivers frame rail, to the inside and going nuts with zip-ties, making sure its not in a danger zone, oh, and it'll be wire loomed this way as well.

Any info is appreciated. thx, Power.

This is as close to what you are looking for that I could remember or find. Angry Andy's install of his insane system using 4 gauge wire.

Check this out.

Hope it helps!!

Re: wire routing for new amp?

If you can get by with 4G wire, there is a pre-drilled, ready to go hole just opposite side of the glove box. It can feed right down to an amp under the passenger seat.

Re: wire routing for new amp?

thx bang, and cow, but i will be running about 1200watts rms. i might be able to get by with 4ga, but 1/0 is what the amp manufacturer suggests. so at the least i'll use 2ga, which is pretty much 2x the dia. of 4ga. The most that i'll normally push with 4ga is 500watts rms. I guess i may have to try using the under the vehicle method. there is a grommet in the jack stow area that i could modify and re-seal, didn't have enough time to look into it as much today(taxes, and 22 degrees out{high}).

Re: wire routing for new amp?

I am slow at doing my installs, picky, and no garage. Now no 2nd car either, so i have to be able to button back up to drive it. I should be getting my amp thursday, and subs prob. friday. However i missed a call by the box builder, might be a delay, or i might use generic box for a while. No custom box out yet that'll fit what i want and have optimal airspace. I will post how i ran wires, and prob pics... when im all done.

Re: wire routing for new amp?

i was looking at mine and i am definitly going with 1/0, about 2k watts rms, same thing i had in my old truck. i was looking at the firewall, plenty of room to drill, and just going down the kick panel and in the door sills. i havent popped one up yet and peeked underneath, but i havent ever been in a car that 1/0 wont fit.

Re: wire routing for new amp?

I dont see a problem with making it fit, just i hate the "bulge" that normally occurs after you put back together. i have noticed normally worse under rubber floors. if you run yours, take pics, i still have my amp on order, and my subs too.

trust me, there will be no bulge. you wont ever know its under there. i forgot to take a peek at the door sills today. i am a freak and perfectionist. i wont do anything unless i have to skills, time, and tools to do it right. well i have two of the three, now if i find a nice 3 day weekend, then it might happen.

Pull up your door sills there should be plenty of room under them to run your wire.
