AVIC D3 with 6 speakers ?

I previously had thought that I did not want to change out my HU and use the factory unit, then replace the speakers and use a couple of alpine amps to power the new speakers. After looking at this new D3 unit however, I am thinking that I may wait a little while and go for a full upgrade.

My question is in regards to hooking up 6 speakers. Since the Pioneer unit is a high power unit, I am thinking that I could get away with not amping externally. My question is however, how would I do this with 6 speakers? I noticed that the manual says only to hook up to 4 ohm speakers, so running in parrallel is out of the question. I could run a small amp to power my sub off of the sub preout on the d3. I could also power the dash and rear speakers on the HU front and rear, then amp the door speakers from the same amp I use for the sub. If I do this, can I use the front pre outs at the same time as I use the front speaker level outputs from the d3 ? This way I could run the front pre outs to channel 1 and 2 on the amp, and then the sub outs to a bridged 3rd and 4th channel? This way, maybe I could get away with only using one amp and still run 6 speakers.

chances are that both front speakers, dash and door are wired in parallel to get 4 ohms, with only two speaker leads coming from the deck. in that case, check the ohms with a multimeter to make sure it is a 4 ohm load, then you will be fine with all six running. if it is a lower impedance, then the deck will most likely shut itself off when you get a little happy with the volume, if it doesnt shut off sooner than that.

Re: AVIC D3 with 6 speakers ?

Yeah, I know the dash speakers are like 8 ohms now, wired with the 4 ohm door speakers. I will be replacing all of the speakers though, and was just trying to figure out the best way to do it for a guy who doesn't want to spend a fortune and run a bunch of amps. I've been toying around with stereo upgrade ideas for a while now. I thought about just upgrading the speakers for a while, but everyone says the stock HU won't drive good speakers very well, so then I got to thinking about amping them. Now that the Avic D3 is out and is reasonably priced, I thought instead of buying 2 amps to run 6 speakers and a sub, I could buy 1 amp for a sub and help offset the cost of spending 800 on a new HU. I'm really not looking for a competition system. I'm just not very pleased with the stock setup. The D3 unit looks really sweet and may persuade me to replace the stock FJammer, which I really do like the functionality of.

bump
ah common guys, I know someone call tell me if you can use the speaker level outputs of the D3 HU at the same time as the pre-outs.

I know it is probably a stupid question.
