Re: New stealthy subwoofer enclosure from FJCruiseraudio.com
We can make it for either a 10" or 12" but it will not look as clean, as the box will have to be taller, PM us if interested and we can get you a price on it.

Why won't somebody come out with a box for each side. Put a 10 in it, make it a band pass enclousre or even better yet, horn loaded for max efficenty. Wrap it in black leather to complement the seats. Have it with an entergrated amp/cross-over network built in. Pre EQ'ed to the box and speaker. And some screw lug terminals for the power and remote (sync) wires, and a single recessed RCA jack. The amp could be 200 Watts RMS at 4ohms with varible frequency roll off points and varible gain control to match level of other speakers. Thats just me, thats what I would do. But since I can't, I guess it will never happen. Quite frankly bumping my car stereo was cool back in 1985 when I was in High School. Today when some punk is sitting next to me at a stop light playing his gansta rap in his 30"s, I just wanna shoot him dead and then power off his radio out of respect for the dead and the others around me that were subjected to listing to something that is not even considered music.
Peace!
bandpass is not a good design. and real horn loaded enclosures are huge. a properly built horn loaded enclosure for a 8" would take up 75% of the cargo area in a FJ.

On a side note, if you take a look at some of the project cars listed on the dynamat site you will find that dynamat alone can increase your system's significantly. Every 3db is twice the volume, so Dynamat alone can increase vol by more than double in many cases.
3db is a noticable difference. twice as loud is 10db. it takes twice the power to get another 3db, or to hear a noticable difference in output. to get to 10db, you need roughly 10x the power. so if you are at 1000 watts, you would have to jump to 10k watts, not very realistic.

a dual 12" would be nice. how much would that run?
im running dual 12"s right now on the cargo floor and it sucks, and my box is just hideously retarded looking... my cargo space is being taking up so i need something to get them off the floor.
i also noticed you do tint, i'm looking for something to keep the glare out but not get me a fix-it ticket.

that enclosure is pretty nice, got one that will fit an Alpine type X 12"?
Yes the box with the Type R woofer will work, The first box i build was design for a Alpine type X, it just take to much room but if you have it we can make it work.

Good god, I'm amazed at the amount of mis-information in the electronics forum...
Anyhow, Briman is right, the band pass boxes and the folded horns do take up a bunch of space. (I just don't agree with his opinion on bandpass enclosures... they do have their benefits and their drawbacks, but I wouldn't classify them as a "bad design")
Ace, If you want to try a "do it yourself" folded horn that will fit in the back of an FJ try this.... AutoTuba
I've never built the "auto tuba" myself, but I have built some of Bill's other designs (the tuba 30 and the DR series...) and use them in my live sound rigs. Bill is no joke either, he's authored a few books and quite a few magazine articles on the subject of sound reinforcement.
