Has anyone installed Dynamat?

What has been your experience with installing Dynamat and where did you put it?

I am curious as to what extent this reduces cabin noise, thanks...

I didn't do the install myself but when i switched to an aftermarket stereo i had 25 sq ft of dynamat installed, floorboards back to approx halfway into rear cargo area and both front doors. Cabin noise reduced by maybe 25%. Sometime in the future i will finish the cargo area, rear door and headliner. I know that others have done this......maybe northshore voodoo?

Re: Has anyone installed Dynamat?

a trunk kit (20 sq ft) was $250 at the stereo place. I went online and found a 25 sq ft bundle for $145 +$20 shipping.

Re: Has anyone installed Dynamat?

Since I installed my subs I've really been thinking about it...I'm trying to decide were exactly all the extra vibration is coming from. I think most of it is in the rear cargo door itself..and wouldn't be too hard to dynamat that. I might try it soon..the vibration is horrible on some songs.

I have it throughout the entire truck including the roof.

I also sent you a PM FJ-Cooper.

Re: Has anyone installed Dynamat?

Check out this page for specific "recipes" they used on vehicles and what it did to road noise and audio in the vehicles.

technical

We are really huge believers in Dynamat, you can put a little in the doors and back, or do the entire vehicle as some people have done, the effect is awesome.

One word of caution, do NOT use dynamat original, too much work, dynamat extreme is much better.

If you are going to do extensive work, i would recommend doing it on a hot day, and laying the dynamat out in the sun to soften it, also use their roller or another roller commonly available at most hardware stores.

Applying dynamat is not difficult, but can be extremely time consuming, but in the end well worth the effort.

Re: Has anyone installed Dynamat?

If you do a google on RAAMmat you find an independent guy who did a survey of most all the different types of mat available. If you're thinking about matting, it's worth the read. Sound Deadener Showdown

Anyway he rated Dynamat extreme and RAAM mat very highly for a lot of very good reasons.. The conclusion though is that the RAAM mat is a much better deal cost-wise. RAAMaudio - Quality and Value in Automotive Sound Deadening

You can also order out some PolyUrethane foam mats from McMaster-Carr starting on page 3395.

It's another option..
Hope it helps.

Re: Has anyone installed Dynamat?

Wow, thanks to everyone for the great information. I am definitely going to do this.

Of all of the things that you can do to the FJ, this is the first thing that I see overwhelming agreement and evidence that it really works!

Thanks again.

Northshore Voodoo and fubar, thanks for the great additional informaiton.

step 2. Volara
step 3. Polyethylene
