AVIC D3 Install help

OK - how does the Scosche Trim kit mount to the D3? Im sure I am overlooking something very simple, but I have wasted enough time on this.
thanks

Re: AVIC D3 Install help

Use the screws that come in the radio box and mount them to the side of the radio. They mount flat side toward the radio. It is very simple unless you don't have the screws.

Re: AVIC D3 Install help

Thanks. I was confused because they seem to overlap the existing mounting bracket.

Re: AVIC D3 Install help

I originally had the same confusion. I just let the trim pieces overlap the mounting brackets (like you said). Still looks good installed.

Re: AVIC D3 Install help

I too stared at these parts for a while before I just overlapped them. I didn't think it looked right when I was putting it together but after installing it in the FJ it looks fine.

Re: AVIC D3 Install help

you could trim those scosche pieces a little where they overlap.

Re: AVIC D3 Install help

I'm having issues with my rear speakers. The vol seems lower than the fronts even when I adjust them so they are reading 15 on the adjustment.

Re: AVIC D3 Install help

How is this Scosche kit supposed to look? It width of the opening in my scosche face plate is a little more than 1/4" wider than the face plate on my D3. I haven't mounted it yet, but it seems like this will not look good... is it supposed to be this wide?

Re: AVIC D3 Install help

The face plate is not used.

As for the black side trim pieces, I used some sharp wire cutters to clip off anything that was overlapping with the metal mounting brackets.

Man, I'm totally not picturing this.

When I say 'faceplate', on the scosche, I mean the thing that goes around the face of the D3... the rectangle with trim on the sides. And then there are 2 side bracket pieces. Which of those 3 chunks need clipping? Am I correct in assuming that you don't use the metal brackets from the stock radio, and use the plastic scosche brackets instead?
