Just out of curiosity.. For me and those who aren't concerned with the horn being too loud.

Will the HL85115 Supertone horn kit work as well, given the same instructions and parts.. aside from the fuses? I mean.. I would like to be downright obnoxious- on top of being able to attract the attention of fellow FJ owners, naturally.

I have some Hella Supertone in my Honda. These are loud. These will definatley come with me to the Fj once I purchase it. This will be the third vehicle my Supertone get to go on. But I might get a second set to go into the Fj and run a switch to activate the second set as needed.
With the Supertone, I highly recommend running a new harness with relay, the one that is included from Hella is perfect. Awsome quality and thick gauged wire. These draw some amperage when you are on the horn. Also I would just create another harness from the factory horn socket to the relay or the new horn. I am not into cutting things off my vehicle if there is no need to. Just my .02 cent.

Re: Dual Horn Install Project

Did you go with the 400/500 and use the supplied brackets? Are they symetrically mounted on right/left sides of the grill?

I installed the PIAA horns too. Just installed the right horn where the OEM horn is attached, hot wired each horn to the single horn wire with a quick connect, and, after sanding away some paint to allow contact, grounded both horns behind the bolt attaching the left horn to the metal bar through an existing hole, and was able to hide all of wires covered with wire wrap under the metal bar using only one zip tie and some electrical tape. A very clean install w/o any exposed wires, except the hot & ground wires plugged directly into each of the horns. No extra relay required and all you can see are the shiny labels on the horns through the grill, which looks pretty cool! Sounds great as well at 115db!

Re: Dual Horn Install Project

I just installed the second horn from Toyota and am very happy with the results. Just spliced in the original horns wire and attached to the second horn and bolted the horn right behind the grille and am very pleased.
Thanks Swiss!!!

Re: Dual Horn Install Project

Is it best to run one ground wire between the two horn posts and then run a wire to ground from one of the horns?

Re: Dual Horn Install Project

I used the PIAAs, too. I also installed the stock horn in the secondary horn in the location in the passenger side at the rear of the engine bay. Three horns!!!

Not necessary, horns are bolted to steel body and that's the only ground you'll need.

Re: Dual Horn Install Project

That sounds like an easy way to go since I am using the factory locations. Anyone else take this approach with PIAAs or others with a hot and a ground post?

Re: Dual Horn Install Project

I just bought these Hellas but chose to spray them black before mounting so they are less obtrusive. Has anyone chosen to install Hellas in addition to the stock horn (3 horns ?)
