Re: CB Install in steeringwheel glovebox!!!

Looks like a nice solution. Sucks you have to drill such a big hole for the connector.

I may do this... a $50 mod (plus bandi & antenna) seems doable.

Thanks

Re: CB Install in steeringwheel glovebox!!!

yea, the hole is a little big, but the connector is huge... I got it so that I had to work the plug through so its as small as I could get by with. I have used my dremel on more projects with my fj than any other project I have ever had. I think that you could do this mod for well under $100 with a magmount antenna, but I really like the idea of the bandi mount and a firestick, which of course, adds some price.

Re: CB Install in steeringwheel glovebox!!!

Did you take the box out? If you did, how'd you get it out? I've been trying to figure out how to do this to install power for my radar detector but I can't figure it out. The two screws in there don't seem to do much.

Re: CB Install in steeringwheel glovebox!!!

i took out the 2 screws and pull from the back forward, there are two spots in the front that make the box let go from the back first and then basically hinge forward, for lack of a better term similar to hooks in the front. One of the hooks is on the far right front of the box and the second is just to the right of the open button. Just work with it a little and it will come out. actually I had to pull fairly hard back to front to get it to release, but once it did the rest was easy.

While its out it would be a nice spot to stick another 12V outlet to charge the cellphone out of sight

Re: CB Install in steeringwheel glovebox!!!

fyi... i ended up putting an external speaker under the dash and put an 4 foot extended cable for the mike and ran the cable under the center console and it comes out in between my seat and the console. perfect install... my drivers side glove box stays closed all the time now, i really like it.

Re: CB Install in steeringwheel glovebox!!!

I think I am going to do this install tonight. Any heat issues in the map box with the CB?

Its actually a pretty easy install. the easiest way to install your cb is to get an add-a-circuit, the mini size. I purchased mine at autozone, I have heard that are also available at pepboys, they are also called posi-taps. They are the easiest way to get power to the cb. I was able to use the wiring that came with the cb, I did not have to purchase any additional wiring at all. I used the aux port of the fusebox, in the cabin insert the add a circuit in the slot in the middle row, between the two blue fuses, that way it will turn off and on with your ignition. Its below the steering wheel to the left. You will also attach the ground wire to a bolt in the car that goes into the frame. You can also run the ground wire into the engine compartment and ground it there too. feel free to ask more questions.
what size fuses should I put in the posi-taps?
