This will be my masterpiece, no not master piece install . . . a master piece install would require a much larger budget . . .
I already ordered colored cables to make installation easier and quicker to install. I will also be performing an out of car install so you can see how easy it will be to hook up your own system.
I am excited and can't wait to get rocking. Just waiting on a few more pieces.
Looking forward to it. Can always use more info...

disagree, but are you talking 12db or 24db octave?
IF you run at 24 it is possible to for localization to occur at a higher frequency (than stated in my previous posts). All depends how your xovers work together and how you are pushing each driver. Not to mention the quality and type of xover - active and passive can vary big time. If you are talking passive then you are not getting a good reading as they do not offer true linear monitoring of the xover points. Only Active can do that. At lest the ones I have had a chance to work with.
Above 120Hz and you will end up with crappy bass. Plus most amps won't let you go much above 200hz on the low pass filters anyhow . . .
I'm talking about human perception of sound sourcing.

On average the human ear can only "hear" sound frequency above 20Hz. At 100 - 120 hz you can begin to localize - actually pretty easily.
The idea is to set your subwoofer properly. If you set your subwoofer over 120hz the sound quality will drop dramatically and you will easily be able to locate the source of the subwoofer. At 300hz the source would be very easy to localize and the sound imaging diminishes to poo . .

Unfortunately it's been over twenty years that my audio engineering has been in good use, so I can't quote you the actual studies (but 300 was the big number as far as my surviving brain cells recall). But sound localization has to do with crosstalk and sensory differential of time arrival at the ears. In the late 70's, early 80's Carver made interesting use of this in being able to move a perceived sound source outside the actual sound stage of a stereo system (His Sonic Holography in some preamps).
I'm not sure what the actual wave shift percentage has to be, but at 300Hz ( 45.14 inch wave), would not be shifted that much for my 7 inch wide head. compared to a 1.35 inch wave for a 10KHz tone.
Hey, just a thought. I'd rather move on and learn from your install. Please keep us posted!

Most JL subs these days are designed for small enclosures, and sound best with Freqs below 85 HZ. I believe I have mine at around 70 HZ. My 9's in the doors allow me to bring thier freq way down and the subs down to an even lower HZ. The transition between the 9's and subs are fantastic.
