RipsFj,
I was actually looking at my FJ today thinking a 3-way component system would be a nice set up and that there appears to be enough room for one. So many choices - so little cash on hand.
I have these ones.
The mids fit up in the dash, the tweets in the a pillar and the 9's in the door. What makes the Morels so nice is the x-overs allow you to bi-amp your components. But your right ... cost is a factor!
I really think the doors will make it sound better - I guess it just depends on "how far you want to take it".... I have not tried the dash and dont think it will "be horrible" but I will bet the doors will be the BEST place! (I left my factory tweets in the dash and they are running off my aftermarket head unit. (You really cannot hear them that well now with the Polks and amp)
I am running the Polks off the Alpine amp so have no room under seats for crossovers... (I would put the passenger side crossover in the kickpanel up front - it barely fits - I had the peel/cut away some insulation inside the kick panel).....
see my pics... (dont have a pic yet of tweeter install but will soon!)
Are you using an amp with your polks?

Thanks for the ideas - I like the under the seat option - I e-mail POLKs technical support this afternoon. Here's their response:
This will work just fine. Make sure to use a high quality 14 gauge
oxygen free copper composition wire to run from crossovers to the
drivers and tweeters.
Hmmmmmmmm . . . Technoreid is right too - these are some BIG Azz crossovers . . . I think I'm going to have to experiment with a couple loactions (dash/kickpanels/rear stoarge cubby).
Technoreid - do you really think putting the tweets in the doors is that much better than the dash locaton? I thought about it - maybe I'm just getting lazy with age - I put the tweets in the sail panel of the front doors of my last truck. Did you try the dash at all?
I started with a "Hole saw" and then just realized it was just as easy to cut the panels with a stanley knife.... just take your time and don't slip....
it is 100% ok to put the crossovers in the rear, and it is ok to put them in the doors. many are setup that way. i havent had a single problem with moisture, not even in my boat
Yes, I'm amping my system with an Infinity 7541. I'm going to use the front channel for the POLK mmc6500 components in the doors, and the rear channel for my sub.
I also thought about putting the tweets in the A-Pillar - I don't have the curtain side airbags - that would put them more at ear level - but it sounds like you recommend keep them somewhat close to the mid bass speakers.

thx, was thinking you came up with a "magic" method. Cause it looks really good. Always try to get ideas from others. If someone has a better method, I say "use it". Why waste time and energy when someone has a better method/idea.

I've installed two sets of components in front, and both had difficulty with interference from the x-overs, driver being worse than passenger. If I had the x-overs around the kickpanel or low behind dash on driver's side, a fair amount of interference. I ended up zip-tieing them farther up towards the upper part of the steering column and that cured the driver's side.
I moved the passenger from behind the kick panel to a nook under the carpet at the end of the foot well, where it snuggled in nicely (but may not for bigger x-overs).
Under the seats is very good idea, but wouldn't work for me as I've got one amp under each.
Technoreid - nice install pics bro! I ordered that same q-logic sub box. I had ordered a different one in hopes of mounting it on the side wall where the fjammer one goes but it was a couple inces to big and kind of awkward fitting. Crutchfield is shipping the one like yours for me now.
