Stereo upgrade question..

I have the stock stereo w/ 6 speaker package in my FJ. I didn't want to go crazy, just a little bit better base and a little more volume. Last night I ordered a Pioneer DEH-P3900MP receiver, Polk DB 650 6-1/2" 2-way speakers for the doors and Polk DB 400 4" 2-way speakers for the dash. I'm sitting here wondering how I should pair the speakers. Should I leave the doors and the dash on the front channel and the stock roof speakers on the rear? Put the doors on rear, dash on front and join the roofs with either the front or rear? Or should I just go doors rear, dash front and forget about the roof speakers all together?

Opinions?

You should absolutely ditch the roof speakers. You will not miss them, especially not with your upgrades.

One thing I might have considered is putting the DB 400s in the rear pillars (the wiring is there, but you have to deal with the cover in some way) and some set of component speakers in the door/dash. 4 channels, pretty good speaker locations, shazam.

Re: Stereo upgrade question..

I had components in my cart on a couple occasions. I figured if I went with the componenets though, I might as well pull the Harmon Kardon off the shelf and start going for it altogether.

The older I get, the less drive I have. I need to keep my projects down to under an hour or I lose focus. : )

Re: Stereo upgrade question..

components won't take any longer than two full range speakers per side in front.

i would be concerned that wiring the pioneer HU amp with 2 speakers per channel on the front channels might overtax the amp. as well, you might have some issues with two full ranges so close together.

I think the risks outweight the benefits. i'd look to components for fronts, or just full range coaxials in front. you seem to like polk - their components should treat you just fine, and I believe it would be less to buy those than full range coaxials for both the doors and dash (or about the same).
