Mounting Ideas for Garmin 2720

I'm a day away from picking up my FJ and I was wondering if anyone has mounted a Garmin 2720 in their truck? I am pretty sure that it will not be able to fit in the driver side compartment, but has anyone tried to make it work?

Re: Mounting Ideas for Garmin 2720

I have the 2730 (same size as 2720). For the first month I used the beanbag mount on top of the driver's side dash, but this dash is so smooth, it doesn't hold the bag mount very much.

For some reason I don't have any good pics handy, but I have it permanently mounted towards the front of the driver's side speaker. You can see it in this pic behind the inspection stickers.

If you want, I'll grab a pic for you tonight.

That is actually exactly where I was going to mount it, the beanbag mount slides around in my current car too. That would be great if i could see how it was mounted or how you ran the wire around so it wouldnt get in the way.

Thanks for the help

Re: Mounting Ideas for Garmin 2720

I was using a 2720 on a bean bag before I got my D3. I don't think I've had any real experience with the beanbag sliding around. Hell, I even put it on my motorcycle tank for a trip once! Anyways. On my FJ, I had the beanbag more to the right, basically far enough forward and to the right that I could open the dash box. And just left of the cluster. I found this worked great. I would have mounted one of those temporary sticker mounts, but I hadn't gotten around to it. I used one of those in my other car for years and was happy. The only annoying thing about the garmin is the stupid power cord mounted speaker, forcing you to plug it into cig. lighter jack rather than run a power wire yourself (you can get the cable to run the power yourself, but you have to find place to hook up a speaker to that cable).

That speaker on the power cable is annoying. I guess I will play around with it tomorrow and see if i can come up with anything good. Then if I can figure out how to post pictures.... I'll put some up.
