AVH-P6800DVD & the sub

Okay, I have the FJammer with the sub. Our local Magnolia Hi Fi is going out of the car audio biz, so they were having a blowout sale on equipment. They talked me into:

AVH-P6800DVD as the head unit
upgrading to an external amp
Upgrading door speakers to Boston Acoustics
Not using the ceiling or rear speakers (no point, they say)
Upgrading the sub (your sub won't work with this head unit and the amp will blow it out anyway)

But in talking to another member here, he was able to use the sub and not have an amp, so now I feel taken. While I have a chance to back out of some of this equipment, I wanted some other opinions.

Yes, you can run the stock sub with your new HU, and yes, you don't need to get the external amp, but why not? It will sound so much better. I have the 6800 and it's a great little HU. My set up is simple. I have a 4 way amp running the components up front, and a mono amp running my 2 10's.

Don't feel taken .... feel thankful that you are going to have a nice little system!

Lots of people on the boards have different opinions on stuff, some are highly informed, some not so much. You will find the same with salespeople, of course they have much more of a vested interest. The system you got should be a nice upgrade for you. If you are not pressed for space i would even recommend selling the factory sub and getting a "real" sub in a box (should be less than $300) for a decent one boxed that would take a little space in the back. You can make that money up by ebaying your factory sub, i think they typically go for about $350-$500 there.
