Question Sonar!!!!!

Ok I have heard about the Sonar feature but I am clueless.
I was looking through the owners manual and brochure and found nothing.
Could someone let me know what this is all about?

Thanks,

T

Re: Sonar!!!!!

It's actually infrared technology.

There are two black circles in your rear bumper that both emit and detect infrared light.

When they get close to an object, if you've pushed the little "P" button on your lower dashboard console... you'll hear beeping.

This is the same technology that is used in automatic no-touch bathroom faucets and paper towel dispensors.

When you get really close, it'll beep faster.

Thats when you stop...

... unless it's your neighbor's evil cat or something that you hate.

Re: Sonar!!!!!

Look for "parking sensor" in the index... I think.

I'm not near my FJ to check.

I suppose, technically, the fording depth that the FJ is rated for puts the sensors below waterline... there's no reason you couldn't use it to find fish. You'd probably want to cast out of the rear window instead of opening the back door.

Ideally, you'd want to back down a slope into the water in order to get some down angle on the sensors.

That's a great idea! Thanks!!!

Re: Sonar!!!!!

It's a slippery slope to use infrared to fish. Next thing you know, you're lighting a stick of dynamite with a cigar and tossing it in the water. Still consider yourself "a fisherman"?

I believe those are refered to around here as "Kentucky Redworms".

And when you walk away your FJ will flush!
