XM Radio Install - Pics

For those of you that don't want to go to the trouble of routing the antenna on the outside, do what I did. I ran the antenna wire behind the door seal (drivers side on mine) and simply used velcro to mount the antenna end on the dash between the defrost opening and the CS storage compartment. It works great. I also used the same technique in my F150.. Just a thought...

For the XM....I just realized the Garmin Zumo I purchased for my motorcycle has an XM radio system if you purchased their Xm antenna, which I just did. This is a repost off another post I made.

I bought a Garmin Zumo 550 recently, mainly as a GPS and XM radio for my rally motorcycle. It uses blue tooth for a wireless connection to my helmet. But, as you can see, it also makes a great all around GPS and XM radio for the FJ.

It has the advantage of only paying for 1 XM subscription and having XM a GPS and XM in all you vehicles.

It comes with both a permanent MC mount and a car mount, which makes it quick and simple to remove and remount. It is designed for one hand use on a MC and a touch screen. It is wired so it auto shuts off and comes on when you start the car of MC. I just ordered the XM antenna which allows it to be moved between vehicles and still maintain XM. Or you can just sit around the camp fire and program it using it's built in batteries. Handy not to have to reprogram way points in GPS memory as you change vehicles.

It looks like it was made for the FJ with it's silver and black case. A few photos to tell the story. Mount is perfect for not having to take you eyes off the road while driving. It plugs into the aux. input on the FJ radio. Just under $700 for it on the net.

I use my ipod all the time. I just max out the volume on the ipod and then turn it down on the deck.

Question for the satt radio users, would not the antenna work in the front dash speaker like I posted here?
Where are you mounting your Antennas?

I have the GPS antenna mounted inside there, and it picks up the satts perfectly.

I get a loss of volume with my sirius radio and other mp3 players through the AUX port as well.

Nicely done write-ups, but I must say for the XM install you went to way too much work. The Terk - Audiovox unit just plugs in to the FJammer - no holes, no major disassembly of the truck, just pull off the radio face plate and pull the radio out a bit. You don't even have to cut or splice a wire!! let alone drill a hole. Totally integrated with the radio and steering controls. Works great with excellent sound quality. Antenna mounts up the samy as what you have done and you still have the AUX port for your iPod. Cost was $99.00 from XMfan(dot com) last fall. Have heard the price went up a bit, but still a much better option than the factory kit and I prefer it to a bunch a junk hanging off the dash, cup holders, etc. And I speak from experience, as I first had a Samsung Nexus which worked great, but the display was too small and buttons too small to operate easily while driving. My $.02. Any way, XM ( or Sirius if you are of that ilk ) is great and I wouldn't be without it...even going to put it in my FJ40...although I know the sound quality will be diminished with all the other racket that goes with a 40!!
