Thanks - I have emailed a couple of the examiners based on the approved list a couple of days ago, but no response. Maybe I will take it at the Industry Canada office if I don't hear back from them.

Took and passed the Technician license test last night, waiting now for my call sign...

Remember, you don't need the paper - just the info posted in the FCC database before you can say...'This is <your call sign> listening/monitoring' on an open repeater or simplex.

Congrats!
I am still awaiting an examiner to get back to me with a date so I can take the test.

I just passed the Technician Exam on Wednesday night. Now I need to decide on what rig to get first. I will probably start off with a handheld. I am already thinking about going for the General and see where it takes me.

Congrats to you too! It is awesome to see so many new folks joining the amateur radio ranks. There are so many nitwits on the CB bands these days, if we could get all the drivers in an FJ trail run set up with their Tech license, it'd be way cool!
I would advise not going with a handheld for your first radio tho. Its just my thoughts, but the range is much less than that of a full mobile rig and I started with a handheld when I got set up and was kinda disappointed. Then I went out and grabbed a simple Icom 2200H VHF rig and wow what a difference that made... threw a Larsen NMO antenna on the roof of my xterra and I was stylin' - although drilling my first hole in the roof of my beloved xterra scared me sh!tless.
For the FJ, grab an Icom 2200H VHF rig and a Firestick 2M antenna on the Bandi mount (maybe $250 or so total) - or a Yaesu 7800 dual-band (2m/70cm) rig and a diamond antenna on a Bandi mount (maybe $400 or so total) and you'll be in like flynn.

Wolf has good advice, I bought a handheld as my first amatuer radio and to be honest I use the FT-8800r more. You can get a good mobile 2m radio for the cost of a multiband handheld, I would recommend you consider going with the mobile, unless you have a specific need for the handheld.

Congrats to 1911 and TIT-CRUISER on getting your tech license!
Good luck with the general TIT. That license will really open a whole new world of radio operating and fun.
I'm pleasantly suprised at how many hams there are here. As Wolf said amateur radio can be an addictive hobby as well so be prepared to adjust your modding budget accordingly.
I think an ht is great to have for a general purpose easy to carry radio. I currently have a Yaesu FT60 dual bander and really like it. But for the same price of around $200.00 or so you can get a nice 75w mobile and antenna combo. Both would be nice to have but the mobile radio is probably first priority for our application.
Anyway, have fun with your new licenses.
