Re: Dash Gauge Pod / Cluster Installed Without Dash Swap

Hey voodoo1, thanks for posting this. I think I speak for most of us when I say; thanks for destroying that whole dash swap myth, lol. Some peeps here were completely convinced that the only way to get a cluster gauge was to do a whole dash swap which disillusioned many that bought an FJ w/ only the convenience package, heh. Any who, I'm still in process of buying one (used) but if I don't find one by next month - I'll just order it through Toyota. Thanks again, bro.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I thought it was very easy. I bought an FJammer on Ebay and installed it, but I did not do the steering wheel controls. I wasn't too sure about cutting the steering wheel trim cover. Cutting a hole in the dash didn't bother me because the gauge pod covers the cut, but if your cut on the steering wheel is off, you have to look at it all the time. Let me know how the radio control install goes. Maybe I'll get brave.
I did it. Just like your measure 4 times and cut once, the install of my steering wheel controls went the same. Measure, measure, place some masking tape along where the cut will be, measure, measure....

then I cut the wheel spoke. I cut it too long, and just kept trimming it until it fit. That way i didn't cut too much at the first cut and have nowhere to go.

You did the impossible (myth BUSTED!) with the dash pod - the wheel controls are easy.

From the outside, they are/about 60mm. Just measure them today.
Can't be 100% until I can get one apart,

Re: Dash Gauge Pod / Cluster Installed Without Dash Swap

Well since we are on this topic I just need to share this. Some of you may have seen the gauge cluster for sale on Ebay, it was mentioned in a thread somewhere. Well it is a damaged cluster, and it just sold for $217 plus $20 shipping. If all the brand new parts are $360 to install the cluster then $217 for a damaged one sounds like a lot.

Anyway, I just happened to see this right when it went on ebay last week. I emailed the seller and asked him if he had a buy it now price. He said $40 plus shipping and its mine. I said send me the Paypal bill and I will take it. So he never did and just emailed me back that somebody bid the $20 on it and asked what he could do. I said just cancel the bids, end the item, and sell it to me. I guess he didnt like that idea.

So I missed out on a good deal and he sold that thing for a ton of money. I knew it would sell for more than $40, but didnt know it would be that much.

Did you buy the parts from Toyota? How much if you don't mind me asking.

Re: Dash Gauge Pod / Cluster Installed Without Dash Swap

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not consider the steering wheel controls swap as a hard mod. It's pretty simple. I'm really looking at this cluster swap when I have some extra cash, so thanks for the thread.
