Does the VIP system have an external proximity sensor or only internal, and also is it like the ATRAC, by that I mean buy the switch and install it becase it came on your truck but the stalership wants money, or do you actually install something more. if not what is a good suggestion for alarm with exterior prox senso, because I would like to keep my winch and bumper. 10 bolts jus doesnt give me a warm fuzzy feeling for security.
proximity sensors are mainly to cover the inside of the vehicle when the windows are down. i dont even know if you could find a radar sensor powerful enough, but if you did, you dont want them covering all the way out to the bumper because anytime people would get within 5-6 feet of the side of the car it would off. your best bet is to take advantage of the shock/impact sensor. if you are that worried about the bumper, get some torx heads. that might detour the normal theif who doesnt carry anything more than a couple cresent wrenches.
Dunno about the alarm and stuff, but if you're feeling uneasy about the bumper, find someone who'll tack weld some of the nuts holding on the bumper. Don't have to do all of 'em, maybe a few to start.
Dunno how often you plan on removing the bumper, but a few strokes of a die grinder and you're good to go!
Hope this helps some, and I hope you and your family are adjusting to life on the mainland.
Aloha!

on my jeep all the nuts are tacked for the bumper, winch, and winch mount.

sensor for inside only. Yes you need to install more. A freind of mine who installs for Toyota Port installed mine. Took about an hour. dash and cente consel are removed for install. Brains and wires added to wire harnes. Wish it was as easy as adding the switch. If you have any questians PM me I still have the Toyota installation instruction.
I found the viper 5900 has dual zone prox sensors that are adjustable, you can make the zone out to like 5 feet around your car but the installer said even if they put it in the headliner all the pillars block most of the signal, But I dunno, the complete system with back up siren/battery, dual zone, digital tilt sensor(so if anyone jacks up your rig to steal rims it will go off), glass break and motion sensor, auto windo control and a one mile radius key fob pager/controller comes out to 1160.98 installed. WOW, anyone in SD city area got a welder?? I was thinking of the tack thing too. much cheaper way to go and only need to quick tack like 4 nuts. Let me know, I stay broke here. Thanks all for the info.
