Lol. Sounds pretty annoying compared to Auto remote starts
Yeah, 'specialy those days when your co-ordination is MIA.
But when it all works on those cold days, it makes it all worth it.

Could you explain your coment "..but it inst a safe setup by any means."

Seems to me CA is behind the times on remote starters, I have not heard of anyone shops up here who wouldn't install one come to think of it most of them recomend it.
yea, since cali doesnt get the same products the rest of the US does.... it is illegal no matter the unit to install a remote start on a manual transmission. PERIOD!

Serious? That's lame. Is it the fear of lawsuits that made it illegal or? just curious.

yes i am very serious. no its the fact that if the car is in gear, its taking off. i personally know of three cars, all of which happened to be porsches, that it happened too. one was an older one and went up against a wall, a newer one that went through a wall, and a new one that took the washer and dryer through the garage wall. even if you know its in gear, whats to say someone else isnt playing with your keys like a little kid (which kids do play with mine and have started it, AT), or if you were to start it by accident in your pocket?

Re: remote start?

If mine is in gear it won't start, I don't even worry about it.
I can udnserstand the fear of a remote starter in a manual trans vehicle though, but times and technology have changed.

Re: remote start?

Well, the "clutch start cancel" button seems like a huge liability these days with that technology. I did drive a manual FJ but didn't play around with it to see if it would start in gear with the clutch start cancel button on, I would hope it wouldn't, but you never know...I agree with Briman on this, just doesn't seem like a good idea.

the right way to do it is with microwave magnets in each gear position. then you use a ring around the shift lever. without getting into detail, when it is setup properly it wont allow the vehicle to start when contact is made between any of the magnets and the ring. that is the best method, other than that, there is no fool proof alarm out there. and besides, ITS ILLEGAL!!!! shops wont do it. i wouldnt do it for someone i dont know.
