It looks nice Tony...I think I like it better than some of the others that are out there. I have been shoping around myself for a GPS. I have been using my laptop for so long with GPS, that I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to viewing the screen. I personally don't like the tiny little screens and prefer a little larger one that is easy to view when driving. I think I'm going with the Lowrance Globalmap Baja 540C OFF-ROAD GPS. Thanks for posting, how you feeling Tony, I hope your getting better buddy

You probably know folks who already have that Lowrance rig but I just wanted to tell you that FJLisa's hubby has one in his jeep. I was talking to him about it in Borregofest couple weeks ago. I forget what his handle is, but I am pretty sure he is on Adventre4x4 and also you can ask her. I'm just telling you in case you wanna talk to someone who has one. That is a sweet machine!
Incidentally, how do you have your laptop mounted and what software are you running on it?
For highway use that Garmin Nuvi 200 is a great value and though the screen is small than your laptop, its not too shabby. Great database of businesses and phone numbers as well. I have used it as a yellow pages many times.

Thanks for the info, thats good to know. I have been researching GPS's for a long time, and think the 540C is just what I'm looking for in a GPS. I run two different ones, the MS Streets & Trips along with the Delorme Street Atlas.
Sorry Tony for the highjack buddy.

Thanks for the well wishes Mike. Almost ready to wheel . I just thought this unit has some cool functions. Free traffic really adds a lot of value to the unit. I've seen this thing go as low as $315. Besides this one, I was considering the Garmin Nuvi350. I've read that this one can take a while to get a lock, but once it did, it keeps it. Navigon is a German company that had made in car navigation systems for major automotive companies for years. They are not new to gps.

Just ordered the 7100 from Costco ($299). Comes with free lifetime traffic! I'll give a full report after a few weeks. Looks really good on paper.

Looks Promising. If the price goes down I might consider purchasing this to replace my old Magellan that I fried Too bad Costco's warranty for electronics is only 90 days, I guess it better than nothing though.

There's this little terms and conditions thing I found:
Quote:
This item is covered by Costco's guarantee to refund your purchase price if you are not completely satisfied. Costco's guarantee applies, even though this item may not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty, because Costco is not an "authorized" dealer of the merchandise.
That works well.
There's a $100 off right now that's why it's only $299. I remember seeing this thing for well over $450 when I first made this post.
