Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

Thanks alot man!
Very helpfull despite what they say about you!
Will have to do this install this week. I hate plugs that don't work when the vehicle is off.
Buddy just bought a tundra and his plugs all work with the vehicle off.

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

Looks great! I think I am going to do it too! But have you tried running both oulets at the same time? I hope they would both work, I am going to put my Sirius reciever in that box, and this saves me from exposing the wire, Thanks!

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

Thanks to everyone for sharing these installs(rhuebarb, bigbill, & swissarmysuv) I installed 2 today one where rhuebarb's is (in console) the other where swissarmysuv did his. I wired both direct to fusebox for constant power. Thanks again.

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

Thanks Ruebarb and others here! I am going to install an outlet while I still have my console torn apart and wire it to be on all the time. For cell charging and the like it takes 2-3 days to put any measureable drain on your battery (leaving a cell charger running), so why not?

For that time you fly out of PDX for that 2-week work trip, come home on the red-eye and head out to economy with the rain pouring down. Jump in the FJ and get greeted by a dead battery... No thanks

So did you wire them into an open fuse slot, as mentioned here earlier?

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

For the 'disconnecting the battery' part on some posts ... that is really not necessary. If you have an in-line fuse and use any level of caution here. Save yourself the trouble of recalibrating the compass (edit), etc.

Come on! Many vehicles come with outlets wired to be on all the time. This is only gonna drain the baattery if something is plugged into it.

Yeah, but if you get in the habit of always having something in there because it's your daily driver, then it can be a problem because you don't think about it anymore...
