BANDI ... Hey, Thank you very much for your son's service. I serve as well as my wife. My wife has been to Iraq but not me (yet). I want you to know that my family's prayers are with you and your family. THANKS!!!

Here's another option for the 12V mouting position. Simple to do and running along the side of the rear console there is enough depth to put in 6 if you really needed them THanks for the excellent post! It inspired me to do this simple mod!!
I didn't think there was clearance for an outlet there. I have one inside the 'box' maybe I'll add one there also.

I just put a 12v outlet under the dash for my Sirius unit. Thanks for all on this site for the know-how to do this. FYI, Auto Zone had the 12v outlet and the mini-fuse adapter to add a circuit. I already had one 12v outlet from Radio Shack. The Radio Shack model is nicer. I put the Auto Zone one under the dash and the Radio Shack version is going to go in the center console. I want to make it have power all the time. My previous vehicle had outlets with power all the time and I really miss that on the FJ. For all the years I had them with power all the time I never had a problem with them. Only way to go in my opinion.
I hope I did not miss the answer to this question - What type of bit did you use to do the drilling. Did you drill out a hole and then use a dremmal to enlarge? I was also thinking of putting a hole in the top front of the center console. This looks like the covering may be a problem. Anyone drill through it?

The outlet I bought recomended a 1 3/32 bore bit (hole saw), I used 1 1/8 (only a 1/32 difference)
It centers itself and then cuts from the outside rim only, I guess that is the best way to explain it. That way, unlike a butterfly bit or other, chances of the plastic shredding outward are minimal.

Thanks. That helps a lot. I've got something similar, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking a better way of doing the job. The right tool always helps . . . especially when I'm drilling holes in my FJ!
I'm new to making electical mods....but want to add a 12v to the front and back as descibed here. But I have a couple questions.
1) The detail given in this thread is great...and the pictures are fantastic. However...the part that I am new to is "tapping into the power line". How do you tap into an existing line? Cut the current line, connect your new line, solder and tape it? Or is there some kind of connector that you use to split the current line into 2 seperate lines?
2) I was going to connect my rear outlet to the subwoofer feed (white with blue stripe). I'm just going to cut that line before the harness for the sub, and wire the hot from the outlet right to that. Is that correct?
Please...if there are better ways (by better I mean...proper) of doing these taps...let me know.
Thank you all for your efforts on these threads...they are a HUGE help.
