you know what, looking through the other posts, i think i read wrong - i meant adding a 115v outlet. i didn't really realize what I was reading, just reading it over. i want to be able to plug in and charge stuff if i'm out and about or not at home - a laptop and such.

i guess i meant is it possible to add the regular plug like the one in the back with the upgrade package?
We'll soon see...

I purchased the FJ OEM 110v outlet and cover from my local Toyota dealer. I've purchased a 500w invertor and I am in the process of installing. I also added the two 12v outlets above the 110v outlet as was wonderfully described in this and other posts.

My plan is to mount the invertor in the passenger compartment. I'll add an on/off switch to isolate the invertor from the battery (if left connected it constantly runs) and a remote switch to turn the 110v on and off. I'm trying to keep as much of the OEM look as possible. I'm considering purchasing the FJ 110v switch to control the on/off function of the invertor.

That's juicy information...you're going to post a how-to when you're done right?

Well first off, if you just wanted to install the factory inverter, the factory wiring is not there. So if you want an inverter, you'll need to do all the wiring yourself.

The easy and simple is to install a 12v socket and buy a socket inveter and plug it into the 12v socket when you need it.
I'm thinking that's the way to go to avoid f'ing anything up. I'm not too keen with car wiring and I certainly don't want to ruin my FJ. Most I've ever done is install an iPod connector in the glove box. Even that was scary **** to me.

Looks like the one part number has changed:

"Part number 8553033020 was superceded by part number 8553006010."

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

Well, I feel really proud that with the help of the pros I was able to hardwire my GPS and install a 12v outlet in the back.

Props to the pros (Ruebarb and SAS) for the details....

Re: How to add another 12V Power Outlet

I look at the electrical schema but it isn’t taking to me.
I want to add power to my GPS (76s) and add a power outlet.
I would like to use a Tapa connector. Use the top one for the GPS power and wonder and need help regarding what wire to “tap” in for the power outlet if I were to use the bottom left empty fuse slot?
