Anyone have detailed instructions for 6.5"s next to rear seat?

I've seen multiple pics on the forum, and pods for sale, but what I am looking for are some detailed instructions/photos of how to go about installing 6.5" speakers in the panel next to the rear seat. I want to use the wiring from the rear D pillar speakers and eliminate them from the system all together.

The forum has been a HUGE help up to this point for installing my AVIC D3(w/ bypass) and I just replaced the door speakers with some upgraded 6x9's.

I added the FJ specific Bazooka tube to the sub hookup in the back and it's good enough at this point.

I want to install 6.5's in the side panels next to the rear seat and any info, especially wiring and panel removal would be greatly appreciated.

I did this same mod and used info I found by searching this section (stereos, elec. ,etc.) of the forum. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures of my own installation, so I have nothing to show you.

I will tell you that I didn't think 6.5" speakers were the best choice in size because of limited space and clearance in the location you mention. I used 5.25" Infinity Reference 4 ohm 2-ways... and the magnet just barely cleared the metal body. I've heard about, but not seen the pods, and they may provide extra spacing to allow installation of a larger speaker. If you have the SAT radio option installed, there is a module and wires located in the passenger side rear panel that you'll need to avoid.

There are harnesses/connectors available from Crutchfield that will allow you to spice from the D pillar speaker location. tip: keep in mind that the exciters in the roof are wired in-series with the D pillar speakers. The impedance of your new speakers is critical and should probably match what you're replacing, otherwise you could damage the HU. There is lots on that subject in the forum.

There are some tech service manuals in the tech section of the forum that provide instructions and illustrations for removal of interior panels. I only removed what I needed to check for clearance before cutting holes to mount the speakers. I used a small sheetrock hand saw to cut the holes. Routing the wires without large panel removal is possible by hand and coat hanger and access via jack storage compartment/subwoofer tray.

tip: use some self-adhesive weatherstripping foam or something similar on the back side of the speaker frame where it comes in contact with the plastic panel when mounting, to avoid rattles, etc. and to "seal" the mount.

I appreciate the info luigi. I'm going to have to search through again I suppose. I'm trying to bring the sound closer and fuller to the front of the FJ without having to add any amplifiers. I've gone that route many times before and just want to avoid it.

How noticeable was the difference in your setup since you have done this? I replaced the factory HU w/ the Pioneer D3, but so far I just find myself constantly adjusting the EQ every other song. Replaced the doors w/ 6x9's, which made a difference and added the sub, but still something is empty.

Replacing the door speakers with 6x9's had the most impact on my setup. It added much need bass up front. The D pillar location is worthless when using a sub... you simply don't hear them, even if you're in the back seat. Putting speakers in the rear seat definately helped to fill out the sound, from both the front and back seat perspective. I didn't spend much money on what I have, but I did amp everything. 240 Watt 6ch driving dash, front, and rears at 2 ohms and 300Watt mono driving 12" sub at 4ohms. It sounds very good to me, but I have to adjust EQ as well when switching between music sources and genres.

BTW... I believe I mispoke when I said the exciters were wired in-series with the D pillars. I meant to say parallel.
