Over the next couple of weeks I will be doing some speaker upgrades on my FJ cruiser. I will start with the Dash speakers.
Tools required.
crimping tool.
bud connectors.
cutting pliers.
electrical tape.
blade.
socket set.
paint can opener.
small screws
screw driver
Estimated time 45 Min's
cost 20-50 dollars
In my upgrade I got a good deal on some Boston acoustics SX 35 3 1/2 inch= 40 dollars.
Running on a stock stereos these can give you a nice 40-60 percent boost in vocal and clarity of songs, due to the fact the the stock FJ speakers do not even have tweeters, this is a good inexpensive upgrade to really boost your stereo.
These speaker work just fine with the factory amp.
Installation steps.
Gather materials
Using the paint can opener slid it into one of the holes pulling up gently until it snaps off. remove bolts holding down the speakers
Remove the speaker harness
observe the polarities
you can either strip the cables at the factory harness- or you ca strip them from the speakers, I removed them from the speakers because i wanted this to be as factory as possible. and prefer messing up 2 dollar china speaker than the factory harness
crimp the positive wire and negative from the old speaker harness the the new Boston or other speakers harness.
crimp tight and put some electrical tape to insulate it well.
plug the harness back into the FJ
tie wrap it all together and bold the new speakers into place .
The extra screw is optional. bolting it on into one spot hold it very tight, but the extra screw just gives it a little more support.
pry off the old sound direction plastic from the Bottom of the dash cover- comes off easily with a knife,
pop things back into place and enjoy.
you can immediately notice a difference !
what makes a difference is the tweeter.
Thank you guys here at FJ Cruiser Forums.
