White noise

are you supposed to have any white noise when you raise your gains on your amps (after market). Im running the amps off of the stock head unit and I'm getting a lot of white noise and its kind of enoying.

Re: White noise

yeah that would be a negative feed back loop, or if you ran you rca cables next to your power cable and they are not shielded then that can cause it. i ran mine down the other side as my power and no problem here. Have you checked to make sure you have a very good ground on your amp? You can also buy a ground loop isolator. I forget how they work btu if you go to any audio store they have them. Good luck maybe someone can be slightly more helpful lol.

Re: White noise

Did you use converters to go from line level to rca to connect the amp? If so, most of those have a gain control on them as well. You may need to adjust. That's what happened to me. The only problem was I had to turn the gain on the converters all the way down to get rid of the noise which meant I had to crank the volume way up and then you could still hear the white noise a little. So, I fixed the problem by going with an aftermarket HU!! Solved the problem!!

But in answer to your question, no you should not have white noise. I would have given most of the same advice as bluedog. Good luck!!

its when he raises the gains, not all the time. if he had that noise all the time, then i would advise him to check his ground connections.

Re: White noise

this is the exact PM i replied to him with:

remember that your gain isnt a volume control. it is used to match the output voltage of your headunit. also, with the stock head unit, you arent getting a great signal. so what you are getting out of the back of the amplifier is amplified not so great signal. get on JL audios website and read their gain setting tutorial. that will get you in the right direction. if you still have questions, let me know.
