Re: GPS: Overhead / Rear-View Mirror Installation Mod

Great write up and install. I wished my NUVI would fit there.

Don, I'm going to be adding a different external GPS antenna and the speaker/power cable this weekend (if they arrive on time), so I'll be posting up pics of the A-pillar removal as soon as I get that done.

Yep, I have the side-curtain airbags.

Re: GPS: Overhead / Rear-View Mirror Installation Mod

Steve,
thanks for the great install instructions and plan on getting my GPS off my dash and mounted as you did this weekend. I love that it will block the sun in that position.
Your innovation and helpfulness is amazing.

Great location. I might need to do this with my 478.

Thanks, Ollie.

BTW, other than the obvious model number and slight price difference, what are the basic differences bwtween the 276 and the 478 (and the 376)?? They all look almost identical.

Re: GPS: Overhead / Rear-View Mirror Installation Mod

Steve, that is AWESOME!! I have the Nuvi 350 and am currently using the sandbag type mount so that it is closer up the dash than the windshield. Getting older and the eyesight is not as good at distances as it used to be. I wonder if I could do this with mine. I will have to do some snooping around to see if I could get a different antenna and power cord. Mine is that slinky looking cord rather than the nice flat one. Hmmmmmm......

They all do pretty much the same thing.

The differences (other than price) are...
The 376 comes with Preloaded North American City Nav Maps and XM Satellite Weather/Radio capability. I think you have to purchase the maps you want for the 276.

The 378 and 478 come with Preloaded North American City Nav Maps, XM Satellite Weather/Radio capability, and voice prompts via external speaker. The difference between the 378 and 478 is that the 378 comes with all North American inland water body software and the 478 comes with the coastalwater software to include US, Alaska, and Hawaii coasts.
