Mounting Yaesu 7800 Radio

I am looking for a clean way to mount the radio preferably under the drivers side dash using existing bolts.

Re: Mounting Yaesu 7800 Radio

That might not be such a good idea. Your radio will generate ALOT of heat during a good rag chew with your fellow Hams. Under the dash can generate too much heat for the radio, and restricited air flow around the rig won't allow it to have adequate cooling, you could run into serious problems.
You can mount the radio under the seats (popular choice) and hide the cables under the floor matting/door sills.
Or, you can mount the rig in the back and run the cables forward.
I have the D-700 and I put my radio under the driver's seat, ran the wires under the floor/sill and mounted the control head under the driver's side air vent on the dash. Looks good and clean.

I put the body under the pass seat and the head unit on the dash in front of the compass thing...

Works great, easy to see while driving and easy to reach controls

Re: Mounting Yaesu 7800 Radio

I like your setup but only need to mount one small 7800 radio. Can you modify your try to accecpt just one radio? I want to mount the tray to the seat using existing bolts instead of having to screw into the seat or floor.

Did you mount directly to the floor or did you make a mount?

Sure it is just a plain field you can drill how ever many holes wherever you want. The tray bolts to the seat frame and puts the radio(s) about 3 inches off the floor. I wanted at least some possibility of keeping them out of a little water and it also allows me to hear the built in speaker on the 875 just fine.
