Extended warranties for after market stereos/HU's/servers?
Quick question? I just purchased the avic d3 and bought the 4 yr extended warranty for an additional 279.00. Please tell me is it worth it to buy the extended warranty. Do people normally have such problems with their units, more specifically the avic d3, that I would need to buy this warranty. I do not any experience with after market electronics. It would be nice to save the 279.00 if It isnt worth it to spend. Thats enough for bluetooth or XM or Cam. Thanks again

I usually dont buy it. Isnt 300 bucks like 1/3 the cost of the unit? I would imagine you could buy alot of parts for 300 bucks... Doesn't Pioneer have a warranty?
Its a piece of mind though. I usually dont keep headunits that long as they keep changing the damn things.

IMO they are not worth it. The price on these units drops pretty quickly after the newer model comes out. If they break they will generally fail pretty soon after installed. Sorry

Was that warranty from Best Buy or something? I bought my HU from eBay and was offered a 3 year Squaretrade warranty for like $80 on the HU and bluetooth. $279 can best be spent elsewhere. Like others said, most problems will be incurred within the first year anyway. Also, I called Pioneer to repair an out-of-warranty unit and they said it would be like $200. Definitely get a refund on it.

from my experience selling service plans, i have spent money on some of the cheap one year replacement plans when they have a crappy manufacturers warranty, but be careful what you spend money on for the long term service plans, they are all differenet, but most are not worth it... the only long term service agreement i would purchase is for major appliances... to my knowledge, they only offer one year from manufacturers on all major appliances, that is not good...

I have had a *very bad* experience with the "Protection Plan" from a major US retailer. It was nothing but a glorified "return to factory" plan. NOT worth the money. I had to escalate to corporate to get my AVIC-Z1 replaced. PM me if you want details.

i had some major problems with a veoldyne SPL series home woofer that i bought from goodguys. well goodguys went out of business, GE or whoever took over their plans wouldnt honor my replacement plan. they transfered me to dead ends, 1hr+ hold times after i have been talked to and information given out. they would not honor it. search that online if you want to find some pissed off people. i finally just talked to velodyne about the issue and i sent my amp in. three days from the time i sent it in i had a brand new one delivered to my door at no charge. now that is customer service.
