Ok Briman, I see you point but Id like to keep my hearing though, hence one sub.
This is no longer a huge or big system or setup.
New Title: Mac mini running some good speakers and stuff.
Either way for toytaco,
To set up a carputer you need some things
-Monitor preferable touchscreen with good resolution (at least 800X640) for computer tasks like internet and other things. Regular low res works for dashboard though so if thats all you want then use something like a head rest monitor or in dash motorized one.
-A DC to DC power supply (carnetix makes a good one. small affordable.)
-An adapter for the computer so you dont have to rip open the power block for home use. "The macpac" mp3car.com
-To get four channels from the mini you need to find a usb sound card with 5.1 rca or mini jack output
-Radio is a USB (Radio Shark 2 from Griffin.) I am debating weather or not to get this as I have Sirius and don't really use the radio but in dead spot for the sat the AM would still work i guess so maybe.
-Mini Usb key pad for a texting like keyboard for minor navi or internet searches.
* If the mini is mounted out of sight then you have to get an RF remote control (I choses a Keyspan) to use dash board.
To have the amps turn on with the car I have just had a switch for em and same for the carputer, just in case i need to do something on the computer with the car parked and off. The computer really doesn't drain the battery that much and the power supply if installed correctly will turn off inf the battery voltage gets low leaving some starting juice left.
For day to day use its great. Set the mini to go into hibernate after 5 min or whatever if unused. The power supply dopes this anyway after the car is off but i like the failsafe. Turn the car on and press play on the remote to turn it back on, Its back in 3 secs.
Use the included software "Dashboard" (the menu button on the remote) to run the media. As the minis have 80 gb hdd and dvd, blue tooth, wifi, cd burner, and others It trumps any of the all in one head units coming out now as far a price and capability is concerned. Install is a little more involved but its worth it.
There are usb gps as well as well as usb cameras that can be used for backing up as well as security. Its very customizable and you only get what you need.
Mp3car.com has most of the things you need for the carputer install.

mp3car is a good site for DIY people. i was only running one woofer as well. although i could have sworn that you said you were going to use a pair of woofers. the different amp setup is only to give you the cleanest possible sound possible. but like i said, you will need the proper processing.
I'm anxious to see your pics and write-up as I was planning on doing something similar in my jeep before getting rid of it. I am definitly looking to put a carputer in my FJ.

I found this, and it looks really cool, i think that we will have carputer in cars very soon. It needs to be simple and relible, and why not you got to be able to have fun with it. There is a lot of companies working to make this happend and prifit from it , but most of this companies try too hard and they end up with products that are very difficult to operate.Clarion had a car pc 10 years ago and it fail because it was just to hard to use. I would like to have a carputer but i have no patience for deal with all the glitches.I'll love to see pictures of a nice system in a FJ, maybe a 10" monitor ,monitor quad, splitter, front camera, rear camera and side cameras, bluetooth, email, now at this point you got to be able to connect to the obd2 and see what the FJ's computer is doing, service ligths, you name it. And why not, be able to talk to your computer and give commands.
Yeah the Infill is nice but its like $2100 and is a big theft risk. For the 2/3's the price the set up I chose, as far as theft is concerned, works better for me.
The stuff I always have gotten stolen, 4 times now despite the alarm, is the head unit.
Probably need some better security like a tazer that shoots out at crook.http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...ies/rocket.gif Lol.
But if you got a garage and are not worried about the theft factor or money get the infill G4. Its a lot easier to install and that may be the deciding factor.
Hey Jt,
Those speakers in your front doors, I was trying to remember where I had seen them, do you have those in mind to sell on your site? I take it there fiberglass, and judging by your amp rack it wouldn't really be in my range but how much would you say it would be... hypothetically.
Id get your amp racks but with 3 PDXs and the the sub box being too tall/ covering the bottom part of amp it would look funny to me. They are nice though. Maybe if i get smaller woofers.

This is the easiest way to have a computer in your car. Add a wire less key board and wireles card and you have a carputer. This unit is design for a in car use so it's ready to go, no power supply problems.I will be doing an istall soon , i will post pictures.
