Question Sirius Sportster 5 vs. Factory Sirius Setup

The dealership quoted me $11,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.32 for Sirius Reciever, install under the seat, and then mentioned I'd have to shmooze the Manager in to get 3 months free subscription.

So instead I went to BestBuy and got the Sportster 5, fm adapter, and install all for under 300 bucks.

I'm pretty happy so far, even though I wish I could use the factory setup.

It doesn't obstruct the view much, but I wish I could have put a GPS here instead. I put some pics in my member gallery if anyone is interested.

Did anyone else get an outrageous quote from the dealer?

Yup. Those things are too expensive for what they are. And the stock install location is in the passenger kick panel, NOT under the seat. I had the Sportster in my Mustang, and I loved it. I was not crazy about the customer service, so I let service lapse. I think I'll get an HD radio when they make an FJammer with the HD option.

You paid $300 to install a Sportster 5 Plug N' Play radio? Wow. That's a bit much.

Re: Sirius Sportster 5 vs. Factory Sirius Setup

I had the Sportster 4 installed almost 2 years ago, hardwired for $400. I was sold into the hard wired because it was suppose to have 60% better reception than a plug and play. Yes to your other question...Toyota quoted me $1200 to do everything. I love the choice I made even 2 years later. Get it hard wired though.

Seems so. The kit for the factory radio can be bought at best buy for 160. It is all plug and play, just take a saturday and take some stuff apart and put it back together again. Save 140.

I have an older Sportster Replay model. I would definitely suggest plugging it into the AUX port. If you drive more than 20 miles in any direction you end up constantly re-tuning the FM xcvr.

When you say hardwired, are you referring to the power or the audio? It sounds like you are referring to the audio. If you are, you don't need to "Hardwire" since the Plug N' Play units all have an Audio Out that you can hook into the Aux port. If you had them install the FM Modulator to "Hardwire" the FM Out signal, then you made the wrong choice.

I have to use the AUX port but do not have to tune the FM. So what does that mean?? They used the term hardwired at Best Buy thats all.

Re: Sirius Sportster 5 vs. Factory Sirius Setup

I had my stiletto2 wired to the aux port when I first got my fj. I bought the sirius radio tuner from trd source for $280, now I can control all the satellite functions from my steering wheel.

The install was 75 bucks...$300 was for the radio, service, install, and FM noise reducer "thing". I hope I wasn't taken for a loop. I don't understand the "hardwired" comments. I should have paid more attention than I did. Plug n' Play? HardWired. I don't know. I'm satisfied with the final product as far as reception, sound, all that jazz. I will look into it more to give a better description of what I paid for. There are pics in my gallery.

All I know is that I turn my vehicle on and power goes to the unit. So is this "hardwired" power? I do have to tune the Jammer to a preset station, so I guess this is "plug and play?" Forgive my ignorance on the subject.
