It looks like a have a Toyota VIP alarm installed by the stealership, but it is not connected. The story: I had my FJ "imported" from another dealer and it came with alarm pre-installed. "My" stealer first wanted $$$ to install it, and after I declined his offer, he said it is some kind of aftermarket alarm. Going through some papers that came with the truck, I found a note saying that it is actually VIP system and it needs to be activated by a dealer. Anyone has ideas about how to activate the thing? I'm thinking it is wire(s) that are not connected, but would not even know where to start looking. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure on your alarm but I think I have something similar to it. I have an add on red LED connected almost directly under the fuse access panel inside the cab with wires running to the back of the kick panel towards the fuse box. It has a push on/ off button that is remove able from the back but the LED has never worked since I bought it (even if button on back is cycled). I also was given the opportunity for an alarm and bluetooth and declined both. I would like to know if there is a quick fix to install or activate as well. I bought my FJ in SoCal and not sure what the name of the alarm is.

what it is, is that a lot of cars come prewired for them, and they sell you on it when you purchase the vehicle. some need to be activated, some you need to jsut plug in the brain. a company out of phoenix was trying to hire me to do that kind of work. in the hot sun on the lot, for like $17 per car, yeah right.

Re: Factory alarm (re)connection?
There's a lot of BS regarding Toyota alarms. The dealer has all this VIP 3200 and V5 pamplets around, so that's what they let folks think they have. My understanding is that the FJ's are prewired so to speak and/or it's real easy to install a alarm designed for them. The truck manager told me that they installed the "V3" VIP alarm and that it was plug and play, however I did find a few wire striping leavings (ther pre-cut kind) in the floor. My FJ has an LED in the leftmost blank switch panel and the alarm works from the key fob. I did activate the alarm once when I was inside the FJ and the LED kept blinking and then the horn went off. That is all I've been able to find out about it, period! I have seen pics on the forum of the same LED and ask if anyone knew, but there were no responses. If you find out anything please let us know.. Ron

Easy way to check and see if you have the RS3200 alarm.
Pull you glove box out like you where changing the cabin filter. Pop the upper glove box area cover off. And see if you have the alarm brain OR just the harness leading to that area.
(I wonder if the Fj would start if the harness was installed and the brain was removed???? Anyone know???)
See figure 5-3 to 6-2 on the install in struction below. http://www.trdsparks.com/install/08586-36820inst.pdf
If the harness and brain is there and the plug is just disconnect = plug it in.
If just the harness is there. Then your alarm is 5/6 complete. Buy and alarm from our great supporting vendor here and plug it in.
(but check to see if you have either the proximtor or glass break sensor before ordering, or even if the sensor is even there.)

I installed the VIP myself, so I know it's in there. The most obvious way of telling it apart from an aftermarket one is that the VIP will utilize the factory Alarm LED located in the center console area near the vent control dial. Its in the black circle area much like how the passenger airbag LED is. The LED flashes red when armed, and if the sonar disable switch is pushed prior to arming, it lights up a solid red.
There are two versions of the VIP available for the FJ. One comes with a "glass breakage" sensor (has a microphone), and the other comes with a sonar to detect movement inside the vehicle (but not really effective for anything outside).
If you have an LED located in another location, most likely it is not the RS3200 VIP alarm that is found in the accessories catalog for the FJ.
