How does the aftermarket horn sound? Come on, you lasy A$$!!!, Post mp3 files, dB readings, analysis of frequency, dynamic range, modulation, perimeter readings at 5, 25, 100, 500 feet. Do some user testing, are people more startled? how do they feel after you blow your horn at them? facts MAN!!! WE WANT FACTS!!!!!!!

or not ( if you honk the horn, can you sleep through it?)

Re: Optional OEM Horn plug for FJ found it today

Since the factory horn is very wimpy and I was curious about the mystery plug, I decided to spend 15 minutes (including unwrapping the plug, taking pictures, re-wrapping the plug, uploading pictures and posting this thread) to check into the plug. It is there, but I was unable to get any voltage readings while the horn button on the steering wheel was depressed.

For a larger view of any picture, click on the picture.

Before unwrapping the 8" of electrical tape:

Here is the plug:

07FJFAN -- Was there a relay or fuse required to make the additional horn work? I could not get any voltage readings when the horn button on the steering wheel was depressed.

Re: Optional OEM Horn plug for FJ found it today

When I hooked up the Freeway Blasters on my '91, I had to use a relay, and also I think the stock Toyota + wire does not supply the power, it is the - wire.

I am not an electrical engineer, but someone explained it to me before that Toyota uses a weird way to energize the horns.
It is the - side that does so.

Maybe try taking a meter reading again hooking up a - wire too?

It was several years ago when I hooked up mine.

Re: Optional OEM Horn plug for FJ found it today

Chatsworth,

No hard feelings. I am telling you that there is another connection for the optional horn plug and play. I will be glad to take a few photo's and send them to you in email if you wish. Just trying to help here and trust me life is way too short for me to take anything especially this fourm too seriously. Send me a pm and with you email and I will send you a photo in the morning.

Sbechtold- I am no electronic wiz, but the horn was installed (plugged in) it did not work until it was grounded to the body of the FJ with a bolt. Once gournded it worked like a charm. The plug you uncovered is the plug that the Toyota tech plugged the optional horn into. My FJ horn is now as loud as my former Tundra horn.

Did not mean to create such a stir here guys. Just thought I would try and contribute something productive. Best of luck to all who believe there is an optional horn plug. Mine works GREAT! Guys if you don't believe me, on Monday go see your friendly Toyota dealership. Adios.

I sell tools to service guys and most arent in menza, Gee run another hot wire off the horn and ground it. Even a Hummer owner could figure that one.
Sorry I got your panties in a bunch for calling you out but dont flame me for it. Id tell people alot of stuff they dont like, in person, and online. Could care less If it bothers u, Im still gonna say it, Im sure alot of people wont like me @ the, so. cal. FJ meet. Dont really care.
I've been a 4wd mechanic / customizer / designer for over 20 years, and I get asked what I feel are ridiculous questions with obvious answers all the time. But people ask me because they trust my expertise, and I answer them without flaming, because that's how someone less knowledgale then yourself will learn. I just glad whoever taught Chatsworth818 the information he knows about cars was more patient than he is...the reason many people come on a forum is to ask questions and learn something they might not have expertise in. Teach them instead of flaming them, and you'll both have lower blood pressures...just a thought...
