CB troubles

Installed my BigBill combo today . Got it all wired up , no shorts , but I don't get any reading on my swr meter . Checked grounds , continuity between ant and radio ( both center conductor and ground ) all is as it should be . My swr meter is 30+ years old , do they go bad ? I can receive a weather station with the ant hooked up .

Re: CB troubles

If you can hear the weather station then your CB is working. I would bet that your meter is down for the count.

Re: CB troubles

Are you sure you hooked up the meter correctly? I know it sounds like a dumb question but its easy to swap leads.

If it's that old, maybe you have to wait until the vacuum tubes warm up.

Re: CB troubles

I think it's one of the PL259 connectors on the jumper . Will pick up a couple of new ones on Tue.
$50 for a new SWR meter at Radio Shack . Prices sure have gone up in 30 years .

Yea, that's a decent meter though (one of the only decent things in that place these days)...

You might find a local shop that you can get a PDC-1 or similar. I got mine through walcott, but I do see them locally at the little shop for under $25.

Just a thought...
