HD Radio

Has anyone jumped onto the HD Radio wagon yet? What are your thoughts on this format vs. the satellite companies? I am going to be replacing my factory radio very soon and was leaning toward an HD compatible head unit, with an iPod hookup. I usually listen to my iPod when I drive, usually only listening to the radio when local sports are on the air, and was thinking that HD would be a better option than paying for a satellite subscription.

Re: HD Radio

I thought about this for about 2 seconds and then I thought the following...

Commercials suck! I either use my iPod or listen to the road, period. Very, very rarely do I listen to the radio because of the incessant, nagging commercials these days. Then, take into account that radio is edited (and I don't know what you listen to, but I can handle my lyrics like a swashbuckling pirate) while your iPod, or satellite isn't.

My $0.02 : Satellite Radio (no commercials, uncensored) or your iPod. Depending on your new head unit, burn yourself a DVD or CD with a bunch of favorite MP3's just in case you don't have the iPod handy.

Re: HD Radio

HD radio is not high definition radio either. it is a marketing attempt to try and get people away from sirius and xm. i can't stand regular radio. it is so watered down compared to bubba the love sponge and howard stern. plus the music that is on the radio is not what i listen to.

Re: HD Radio

I've have it for 3+ years. It is great for me being in a big city.

Pros-Free, Clear (better AM).
Cons-Additional equipement, the 1.5second pause when changing to a HD station.

I got my HD tuner because I was a big fan of a local morning programing. But a year after I got it the program was cancel(the guy got fired). I also listen to music that aren't played too often on Sirius (or XM).
I use to listen to my HD local programming more than my Sirius. Now it's about 50/50 between HD local and Sirius.
