Pioneer AVIC-F900BT

I was going to buy a AVIC-D3 this week for the FJ until I got the latest crutchfield that has this one in it. Looks pretty nice with built in Bluetooth and Ipod controls. Also does voice control.

Pioneer intros the NavGate AVIC-F900BT and AVIC-F700BT GPS units - Engadget

Crutchfield lists it at MSRP: 1099.99, wonder what the street price will be...

I have an AVIC-D2 in my teg, so I like not having to switch disks when using NAV. Plus the ability to load destinations from the PC onto USB and SD card will be nice, shouldn't have to purchase disks updates either. Already have the xm navtraffic tuner with my D2, so it'll be interesting to see how the MSN service handles traffic. Supposedly the interface is more intuitive. Hopefully the voice control works well, it uses Parrots system for Bluetooth.

Not sure what you mean by iPhone support, but according to pioneers page for the iPod adaptor, it supports all iPods from Oct 2005 on, I would hope that means the iPhone too.

Here's pioneers european page for it:

AVIC-F900BT Pioneer Navigation - GPS system - Satellite Navigation - GPS

I wonder how is that unit compares to the Z3? Do you have to swap out disks?

Also there seems to be tons of disscussion over at AVIC411.com

Re: Pioneer AVIC-F900BT

I would not hold my breath on this piece just yet.
It's not due for another 2 months as a minimum, and may be 3-4 months.

As most of you know we're big fans of Pioneer, and they certainly have trailblazed many of the innovations in navigation as of late. But until we see a unit and have a chance to play with it we try not to get too excited

I'm going to see if I can get one sooner since my cousin works at the quality control department at Pioneer down in Long Beach.

I was going to pick up a Z3 however... with this unit out now I'm on the fence.

Uh...it's FLASH memory nav? About a quarter of the data of the Avic D3's DVD nav? I'll stick to the D3 ty. The D3 has quite possibly the best iPod controls yet, there is NO reason to use CDS, and flash memory is a touchy subject...sure it LASTS longer, but you have far less space for data.
Flash should be fine, most of the dvd isn't map information, it's points of interest. I can count how many times I've used a POI search on one hand. The AVIC-S1 I have has less memory and it does just fine and still has 1.5 million points of interest.

This concerns me a little as well.
I always liked the robust features of both the D3 and Z2, I have never been a big fan of the garmin/Kenwood unit.
As someone who often travels, the phone book directory and POI dir are big.
I am also interested to see what the speed is like, and how different the interface is.
We have literally sold hundreds of D3's and have not had a single complaint about the Nav/DVD swapping, as you say, 90%+ of users have an IPOD and use it rather than CD's

We'll try to post a full analysis once we get 1.
